Only when there is no house opposite, or when the door faces the road, will there be a mirror. Mirrors are cold things that can ward off evil spirits. Ghosts generally belong to the category of soul, and mirrors will hurt the soul.
Of course, this is just a Taoist statement. Now people in the new era are not as superstitious as those in feudal society. However, some older people do this, but others say it is not good-looking, so there is a tradition of writing auspicious words above the gate. As the saying goes, "further progress" means this!
Of course, some families will stick a landscape painting on the wall opposite their own gate, or a big inverted word "fu", indicating that life will get better and better, or they will be very blessed and rich! But now many rural people don't build houses very much, and they all choose to buy houses in urban areas. I wonder if this tradition will be erased.
