What role does the appearance and value of ebony play?

Due to the special natural geological conditions of ebony formation, ebony is a special non-renewable precious material resource. There is a folk proverb in China that "a box of jewels is not as good as ebony". Ancient dignitaries regarded gloomy wooden furniture and carved works of art as Buddhist sacred products, treasures of towns and houses, and things to ward off evil spirits, and cherished them very much. Because it has the function of "not rotting for ten thousand years", it has become the first choice of imperial coffins in past dynasties, especially since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Even in the Qing Dynasty, it was always used exclusively by the royal family, and the people could not use it privately, which led to its increasing scarcity. Advantages are: non-corrosive, can ward off evil spirits, and is valuable.

Wei Xuefeng, a famous archaeologist, praised ebony for its archaeological, ebony and social value, and listed it as the "first collection". Mr. Huang Yongyu, a master of contemporary Chinese painting, even put his precious dark wood in the living room as a treasure of the town house when he was building a villa. In the book Feng Gong, a famous crosstalk performer and his family, it is said that his ancestor Feng wanted to give his first teacher a gift when he became acting president of the Republic of China. The teacher said, "When I get old, please give me a bite of longevity material. This is a lifetime commemoration. " A few months later, Mr. Wang was very unhappy when he saw a thin wooden coffin delivered. At a reception three months later, he complained. The guest is a carpenter. When he got up and looked at it, he was shocked and repeatedly praised "good material, good material, this is an out-and-out ebony!" Then I opened the lid of the coffin and saw dozens of pounds of beef sent by Feng. It's been more than three months, and the meat is fresh and tender, as if it had just been slaughtered. Ebony has also attracted the attention of many central and local leaders, and people in the cultural and artistic circles at home and abroad are amazed. Qiao Shizan, former chairman of the National People's Congress, praised it as "the treasure of abundance" and wrote an inscription happily. Zhang Xuezhong, secretary of Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, and leaders of relevant provinces and cities attached great importance to it, and made special instructions on the development and utilization of Sichuan ebony in September 2003. Many experts, scholars and artists equate ebony with the "national treasure" panda, Sanxingdui and Jinsha site, calling it "a unique skill in Sichuan". Wang, a master of modern arts and crafts in China, gave a more incisive evaluation of black wood, saying that "the discovery of these rare and ancient trees is a rare spectacle, strictly speaking, it is not limited to the category of wood, but should enter the category of' treasures'. Because the black wood art collected by the Palace Museum is not placed in the woodcarving art museum, but in the "Treasure Garden".
