In October 1983, Changqi People's Commune was withdrawn and reestablished as Changqi District, with its headquarters in Changqiwei and jurisdiction over 12 townships. In February 1987, Changqi District was removed and Changqi Town was established. As of October 2021, Changqi Town governs 1 community and 13 administrative villages. The town people's government is located in Changxing Street, Huazhou.
