Original intention of compilation Compiling local chronicles is an excellent cultural tradition in our country. The compilation of Pingtan local chronicles began in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. By the 30th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1904), it had been successively compiled into Records of Hai Tan (edited by Guo Wancheng), Records of Pingtan Scenic Spots, Chronicles of People (edited by Shi Tianzhang), and Chronicles of Pingtan Countryside (edited by Song Tingmo). ) and other chronicles, but all have been lost. In January of the 10th year of the Republic of China (1921), the county governor Huang Lusi initiated the compilation of the "Pingtan County Chronicle", which was completed the following year. The book has 34 volumes and more than 200,000 words. In April of the 31st year of the Republic of China, the county government prepared to renew the county annals, established corresponding institutions, and assigned chief compilers. Data collection: In the first half of 1992, in order to cooperate with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the county, we extensively collected historical materials, compiled and published "Pingtan County Major Events in the Eighty Years", with a total of 180,000 words. Since then, due to personnel changes, the work of compiling the records has continued and stopped. The county records office mainly focused on assisting the compilation of department records. By 1994, departmental chronicles had been compiled, including "Sports Chronicles", "Urban and Rural Construction Chronicles", "Transportation Chronicles", "Sea Region Chronicles", "Military Chronicles", "Land Chronicles", etc. Because the compilation work of county chronicles cannot be fully carried out, the progress of compiling the chronicles is slow. In the spring of 1995, leaders of the provincial and municipal local chronicle editorial committees came to Lan several times to urge inspection of the chronicle revision work. In order to speed up the pace of compiling local chronicles, the county party committee and the county government reorganized the local chronicle compilation committee, with the county magistrate Fang Zhigong concurrently serving as the director, and signed a letter of responsibility with 56 units with the task of compiling local chronicles to complete it within a time limit. At the same time, the county chronicle editorial office staff will be adjusted and enriched, and the chief and deputy chief editors will be determined. By October 1996, 56 units that had signed the letter of responsibility had completed the first draft of the departmental chronicle, and the county chronicle editing office had collected nearly 10 million words of information. Writing process: 1997 was a year of full collaboration, hard work, and hard work among the editorial staff. Under the specific guidance of the provincial and municipal local chronicle editorial committees, the catalog of chronicles has been adjusted many times, and issues such as individual inappropriate formats and irregular expressions in the chronicles have been promptly addressed, focusing on the "three properties" (ideological, scientific, and informative). close. In August of that year, leaders of the provincial and municipal local chronicle editorial committees came to the county to hold a draft review meeting. The meeting believed that the guiding ideology of the manuscript was clear, the contents were reasonable, the foundation was solid, and the writing was relatively successful. Many revision suggestions were also put forward. Since then, the entire manuscript has been revised many times and compiled in depth. According to the requirements of the "third review", it finally passed the review by the Municipal Local Chronicles Editorial Committee and the approval and acceptance by the Provincial Local Chronicles Editorial Committee. Summary of significance: After many years of practice in compiling history, I have deeply realized that "the most difficult thing in compiling history is ambition." Due to the lack of historical data, the compilation of chronicles is largely fragmented, especially the lack of historical data from the Republic of China and before, which brings great difficulties to the compilation of chronicles.
