First of all, the rudder is used to control the steering of the ship, usually at the stern. The main structure is shown in the figure. Comprises a rudder (steering wheel/rudder), a transmission mechanism (hydraulic or mechanical structure), a rudder shaft and a rudder blade (rudder plate).
The specific principle is as follows:
As shown in the right view of the sailboat below, the sailing direction of the ship is positive, and the rudder handle turns left to the steering direction, then the rudder plate (rudder blade) will turn right in the sailing direction.
When the ship moves forward, when the rudder blade turns right, it will be impacted by the current because of the included angle between the rudder blade and the driving direction, as shown in Figure F, which can be decomposed into F resistance and F steering opposite to the driving direction. F-turn pulls the stern to the left and drives the bow to the right to complete the steering purpose.
How to apply rudder steering to the development of sailing at sea and how to cooperate with sail control will be explained in detail by the professional coach of Qingdao Sailing Club in the theoretical training before development to ensure the smooth development of high-end sailing at sea.
