Why did Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiu build the mausoleum on the mudflat?

About Liu Xiu, some people call him "the son of an airplane", which means the son of natural selection. It probably means that he became an emperor to a great extent with the help of heaven, and he was a very lucky emperor.

Of course, Liu Xiu's luck is actually the result of his efforts. Although he is a descendant of the Han royal family, by his generation, his family has declined. However, Liu Xiu didn't want to sink in and study hard. While studying in Chang 'an, he made a great ambition in life, that is, "an official should be a golden servant and his wife should be Yin Lihua". Later, Liu Xiu started from scratch, experienced numerous difficulties and hardships, and finally established the Eastern Han regime. After Liu Xiu unified the world, he carried out drastic reforms in the army and bureaucracy, providing a good environment for the people to recuperate.

And released slaves many times, reduced taxes and so on. Under his rule, the situation of "rejuvenating the country by force" was soon created. Liu Xiu was kind to the founding heroes and practiced benevolent government, which was praised by courtiers and people. He was an almost perfect emperor in history and was praised by later generations. However, after Liu Xiu's death, the choice of the location of his mausoleum has been puzzling future generations. You know, in the feudal dynasty, the emperor always paid special attention to what was behind him. In the early days of their rule, they often chose auspicious places and built tombs everywhere.

Generally speaking, the sunny place with the back of the mountain and the water is often the emperor's first choice. According to Feng Shui, this kind of place is open and relaxed, which not only shows their open mind and ambition to control everything, but also protects future generations and consolidates the country forever. For example, Beimang Mountain in the north of Luoyang is the first choice of emperors in past dynasties. Because of its open mountains and facing the Yellow River, it was the first choice for emperors to build their capital in the Central Plains. It has always been popular in ancient times that "born in Suzhou and Hangzhou and died in Beimang" means this.

And Liu Xiu's tomb happens to be on the Yellow River beach opposite Beimang Mountain, which is the legendary "pillow river pushes the mountain". From the perspective of geomantic omen, it seems that this place is not an auspicious place, and it is also unfavorable to future generations. Then, why is Liu Xiuhui, who has always had the right to short, buried here? On this issue, it is recorded in unofficial history that I wanted to build a mausoleum on the Beijiang River, but Zhuang was a traitor. He said that if he went east, Liu Zhuang would go west. In short, he won't deal with him everywhere.

Liu Xiu was worried that even if a mausoleum was built in Beimang Mountain, Liu Zhuang would deliberately make trouble and bury him on the Yellow River beach, so he hesitated and never built a mausoleum. As a result, she is 62 years old and Liu Xiu is very ill. On his deathbed, Liu Zhuang asked him where he wanted to be buried. Liu Xiuben wanted to talk about Beimang Mountain, but when he thought that Liu Zhuang had never relied on him, he changed his mind and said that he was short of water, so he was buried in the Yellow River after his death and later died.

Liu Zhuang felt guilty when he thought that he had always contradicted Liu Xiu for many years. Tears streaming down his face, he swore to Liu Xiu's body that he would obey his entrustment this time. Later, Liu Zhuang summoned all the skilled craftsmen to build a beautifully designed dragon boat as Liu Xiu's coffin. When the funeral was auspicious, Liu Zhuang ordered the coffin to be thrown into the raging Yellow River. Who knows that shortly after the coffin fell into the water, the surging Yellow River rushed northward, but the riverbed where the coffin landed was exposed, followed by a strong wind. In an instant, a mausoleum was easily raised where the coffin was located, so this became the original mausoleum of Liu Xiu.

Of course, this kind of unofficial history is not credible. According to historical research, Liu Xiu began to build his own mausoleum between Beimang Mountain and the Yellow River in 50 AD. Because Liu Xiu is a humble man, he thinks that he is "not conducive to the people, and everything must be done according to the system of Emperor Xiaowen, so he must be frugal. Don't leave your town, and don't send officials or mail letters of sympathy. " Therefore, when he built the mausoleum, he asked that "the land he built is only two or three hectares, and there is water because of the inaction of the mountain pond", which means that the mausoleum should not cover more than two or three hectares, and at the same time, it should not be built like a mountain, as long as the drainage is smooth.

When Liu Xiu died, he specifically stated that only pottery can be used as funerary objects, and precious utensils such as gold, silver, copper and tin can never be used as funerary objects. Under the instruction of Liu Xiu, his tomb was built simply and solemnly. Later generations knew that his tomb was just worthless pottery, so when the imperial tomb in Beimangshan was stolen crazily, Liu Xiu's original tomb was never visited by grave robbers again.

Of course, in addition to the fact that there are no valuable funerary objects in the tomb, there is another reason that the original tomb is on the Yellow River beach, and here is the quicksand structure, so grave robbers dare not make a move even if they want to start work. Therefore, Liu Xiu's mausoleum finally "pushes the mountain with a pillow" because he cares about the sufferings of the people and advocates thrift. This is in line with what he did before his death.
