Zeng Tai Uk, located near Pok Hong Estate in Shatin, covers an area of ??about 5,000 square meters. It is one of the only remaining large-scale Hakka walled villages in Hong Kong, China. The original name of Tsang House is "Shanxiawei", which means the walled village under Lion Rock. The construction of Tsang House began in about 1848 and was completed in 1867, which took nearly 20 years. The owner of the house was Tsang Guanwan, who was very wealthy at that time. It is said that Zeng Guanwan was originally a Hakka from Huizhou. His family property was occupied by others and he was forced to move to Ya Kung Yan, Hong Kong Island, China, where he made a living by breaking rocks. He later became rich by running a business and became a famous wealthy businessman in Hong Kong, China. There are many legends about Zeng's wealth. It is said that while his wife was washing clothes by the river, she encountered a thief pursued by the government. The thief left a few cans of salted fish for her to keep for safekeeping. A few months later, the family saw that no one had retrieved the jar. Out of curiosity, they opened the jar and discovered that there was gold and silver under the salted fish. The Zeng family became rich overnight. Regardless of whether the legend is true or false, it is absolutely true that after Zeng became rich, he intended to purchase land and live and work in peace and contentment. He visited many places in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, but could not find an ideal location. Later, he came to a village at the foot of Lion Rock in Shatin today. Seeing the beautiful scenery and good Feng Shui, he decided to buy land and build a house here. This is the origin of today’s Tseng House. After that, the Zeng family purchased a large amount of land in the area of ??today's Chengmen River, and also paid attention to the education of their children, hoping that the family could gain fame and improve their social status. During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, Zeng Guanwan's nephew Zeng Su passed the examination. When Zhang Yutang, the deputy general of the Dapeng Association who was stationed in Kowloon Walled City, visited Zeng's house, he personally inscribed a horizontal plaque with "Wen Kui" as a mark of praise. This horizontal plaque The plaque still hangs on the wall in the main hall of the house today. In addition, through donations, Zeng Guanwan was granted the title of direct minister by the imperial court, so Zeng Dawu also had the title of "doctor's title". The so-called "big man" was originally one of the civilian officials, but later it became a gift and could even be obtained through donations. As far as we know, apart from the doctor's house in San Tin, Yuen Long, the only residence in Hong Kong for people with the title of doctor is Tsang House in Shatin. The Tsang House is a rectangular Hakka enclosed house, built of blue bricks and granite, and is very solidly built. There are watchtowers at the four corners of the enclosure for defense. There is an iron trident on the roof of each watchtower, which is said to have the effect of warding off evil spirits. There are three entrances to the north of the house, the middle one is called the main entrance. In addition to the horizontal grid made of eleven seven-foot-long rosewood and iron branches, it is also protected by two huge iron doors to prevent bandits. The entire enclosed house is divided into three parts from front to back. Entering from the main entrance, you first go to the front hall, which used to be the place where sedan chairs, greetings and communication were stopped. The middle hall after entering is the meeting hall, where a A very precious antique is the birthday screen given to Zeng Guanwan by his nephew Zeng Su and a group of officials on his 70th birthday.
