New York's Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River in New York, connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan Island. It was officially put into use on May 24, 1883. The bridge has a total length of 1,834 meters. The bridge body is lifted 41 meters above the water by tens of thousands of steel cables. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world at that time and the first bridge built with steel in the world.
