Edema (edema[2][3]) is the name of the disease[4][5]. Published "Huangdi Nei Jing Su Wen·Treatise on Water and Hot Points". Also known as water vapor[4]. In ancient times, it was called water, water vapor, water disease, and water swelling [5]. It is a general term for diseases whose main manifestation is skin swelling [2]. Water retention in the patient's body floods the skin, causing edema in the eyelids, head, face, limbs, abdomen and back, and even the whole body. In severe cases, it may also be accompanied by pleural effusion, ascites, etc. [6] One syndrome of edema is a manifestation of systemic pneumatization dysfunction. The main lesions are dysfunction of the lungs, spleen, and kidneys. The pneumatization of the bladder is unfavorable and edema occurs. According to clinical manifestations, it can be divided into two categories: yang water and yin water. It occurs due to external pathogenic factors, and the onset is more acute. The swelling usually starts from the head and face, and the swelling occurs above the waist. The disease is mostly located in the lungs and spleen. It is mostly syndrome and is Yang water. Those with internal deficiency have a slower onset, usually starting from the soles of the feet. Swelling occurs first, and the swelling is most severe below the waist. The location of the disease is in the spleen and kidneys. It is mostly due to deficiency syndrome, which is Yin water [6][7][5].
The treatment methods for edema include diaphoresis, diuresis, diuresis, spleen strengthening, kidney warming, reducing turbidity, removing blood stasis, etc. If the menstrual period cannot be treated with usual methods, or if there are signs of blood stasis, the method of activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis can be used [6]. The above methods can be used alone or in combination, depending on the needs of the disease [6]. Acupuncture has a certain effect in treating this syndrome, and has good curative effects in improving symptoms, strengthening physical fitness, and reducing recurring attacks.
Edema in traditional Chinese medicine can be found in cardiogenic (such as congestive heart failure) edema, nephropathic (such as acute and chronic glomerulonephritis) edema, liver disease (such as cirrhosis) edema, Endocrine disorders, dystrophic edema and other diseases [6][7].
