The origin of baiyi nunnery

There are two stories about the origin of the White Temple. First, at the end of the Tang Dynasty, the emperor held a beauty pageant in Leizhou, and a woman fought to death and jumped into the lake to escape. After being saved, she cut her hair here and became a nun, so she had the White Temple. The second is said to be a practice place for a white nun in the Song Dynasty, so there has always been only a little nun in uniform.

Baiyi Temple in the scenic spot of "Huguangyan (one of the eight scenic spots in Zhanjiang, beautiful name: Huguang Jingyue)" in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province is located in Huguangyan scenic spot in the southwest of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, adjacent to Guangdong Ocean University and about 15km away from xiashan district.

Baiyi Temple and Lengyan Temple face each other across the lake. It used to be a cave on the cliff of Shiling Mountain in the west of the lake. The new Buddhist temple outside the cave was donated by Hong Kong tourists 1992. It is said that everything went smoothly after she went to Baiyi Temple to worship Master Guanyin.

The legend of baiyi nunnery

It is said that in the Song Dynasty, there was a very capable Feng Shui master. The master's name is Lai Buyi, and he used to be a Buddhist teacher. Standing here at that time, he only felt that the impression of green water, blue sea and blue sky was beautiful, just like logging in to Tianmen. The more he looked at it, the more surprised he became. After careful calculation, he actually figured out that there would be a son of heaven here.

In the Ming Dynasty, a master happened to pass by here and heard this interesting rumor. He hoped that the future son of heaven would be inspired by Buddhism and love the people, so he specially built a temple here. It is also dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva in white, hence the name White Temple.
