Why did Zhu Yuanzhang stop the construction of Zhongdu City in Fengyang, Anhui, his hometown?

Because all manpower and material resources were concentrated on the construction of the Zhongdu city and palaces, the construction of the Nanjing palace was temporarily stopped. In the following years, only necessary repairs were made to the existing palace.

It may be because of financial constraints, or because he feels that his hometown is not a suitable Feng Shui location for establishing Zhongdu. Therefore, after a series of practices, Zhu Yuanzhang finally decided to give up the construction of Zhongdu and concentrated all his energy on building his own Nanjing Imperial City.

In 1375, Zhu Yuanzhang gave up his plan to build Zhongdu and concentrated on building Nanjing. Fengyang, Anhui now still has many ruins in the capital of the Ming Dynasty, the famous one being Fengyang Drum Tower.
