Li Mao's allusions

There is also an interesting story about Li Mao. It is said that Li Mao used to be called Shamao Mountain, and the river at the foot of the mountain was called Dai Yuhe, which was called "locking jade belts around the waist". Shamao and Dai Yu are ancient official clothes. I don't know in which dynasty and generation, the emperor decreed that Tongling should be built into a big city and besieged for forty miles. So he sent a county magistrate named Mei to carry it out. Master Mei is from Xiajiang and likes to watch Feng Shui. After he arrived in Tongling, he was shocked to see the geomantic omen here! He thought, if according to the imperial edict, after the completion of the city, Tongling will inevitably produce three buckets and three liters of sesame officials, and a sesame is an official. Then all the officials in the world didn't give it to Tongling people. Outsiders will have no food, that's enough! So he changed the siege from forty miles to four miles; Shamao Mountain was changed to Li Maoshan (meaning "official hat" was changed to "Li Mao"), but the title of Dai Yuhe was retained.

Li Mao is the site of the Battle of Crossing the River during the War of Liberation. At the top of the mountain overlooking the Yangtze River, there are trenches on the mountain, which were left behind during the battle of crossing the river. In order to remember the great achievements of revolutionary martyrs and inspire future generations to work hard to revitalize China, Tongling Civil Affairs Department built a memorial tower at the top of Li Mao on 1958, named Tongling Martyrs Tower. The tower is a reinforced concrete structure, covering an area of 900 square meters, with a building area of 400 square meters and a tower height of 30 meters. There is a rest platform with handrails in the middle of the tower. On the platform, you can see the Yangtze River and the county seat. The tower is a three-story square solid tower, with sixteen characters engraved on the east, south, west and north respectively, such as "bright sun and moon", "majestic mountains and rivers", "immortal" and "everlasting". Written by Zhang, the former chairman and calligrapher of Anhui, it is solemn and magnificent. Surrounded by lush flowers and plants, pine and cypress stand upright.
