Breeding method of succulent plant Tong Lei

Tong Lei is a succulent plant belonging to Syringa, which is native to the hilly lowlands in southern, eastern and central South Africa. Tong Lei, also known as Syringa spinosa, is a perennial succulent herb. The stems are slender and have tiny spines. The plant is multi-branched, with opposite leaves and a long distance from top to bottom. The leaves are ovoid or ovoid, fleshy, 65438 0.5 cm long and green, with dense white fleshy warts on the surface. Under strong light, the leaves will be slightly red, and the flowers will be solitary, small, white and yellow in the middle, and bloom in summer.

Tong Lei needs sunshine, a cool and dry environment, tolerance to semi-shade, fear of waterlogging, and avoidance of hot and humid conditions. It has the habit of growing in cold season and sleeping at high temperature in summer. Tong Lei is not strict about soil, so it is enough to thicken sand with peat soil to maintain water permeability. September of each year to June of the following year is the growth period of plants (the growth period is long and short in different environments of flower lovers). If the light is insufficient, plants will easily grow white and the spacing between leaves will become longer, which will make the plants deform loosely, the stems become very fragile, the leaves will be elongated and the color will become light green. Plants growing in sunny places are short and strong, the arrangement of leaves will be compact, and Tong Lei will not grow too slowly.

During the growing season in Tong Lei, it is necessary to keep the soil slightly wet to avoid water accumulation. In the soil, peat and a small amount of perlite are mixed with cinder, and the ratio is about 6:3: 1, and river sand is spread on the soil surface. Tong Lei can withstand the low temperature of minus 4℃ when the basin soil is dry, which is the indoor temperature, not the outdoor temperature. Water is basically cut off all winter, and it will start to cut off slowly below 5 degrees. When the temperature exceeds 35℃ in summer, the growth of the whole plant basically stops. At this time, watering should be reduced to prevent root rot caused by too much water in the basin soil. And strengthen ventilation, proper shading, to avoid exposure to the hot sun. This is basically maintained throughout the summer. It is worth noting that summer is not a season without water, but only a small amount of water is given, otherwise the old leaves will easily dry up. Water is only supplied by the basin, about 2-4 times a month, and at about 7-9 pm. At this time, the sun has set and will not affect the roots of plants.

The cultivation of Tong Lei should avoid long-term rain, so as to prevent the roots from being damaged and the branches from turning yellow and rotting. Because Tong Lei grows faster, it's almost enough to change the pots once every 1 ~ 2 years. Change the pots before watering for the first time in early spring. The plant morphology in Tong Lei is not too big, but it has branches, which can be beheaded, cut and propagated by ramets. Cutting branches is easy. Take healthy old branches and dry them in slightly damp sand. Roots will basically grow in a cool and ventilated place for more than 20 days. Don't give water often when cutting, or the stem will rot easily. Cutting should be selected in spring and autumn.
