The legend and development of Huilongguan

The place name Huilongguan comes from a local village - Huilongguan Village. The name can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty and originated from the Ming Dynasty emperor's visit to the Ming Tombs. According to legend, there used to be a Taoist temple here called Xuanfu Temple, which was where the emperor rested on his way back to Beijing after visiting the mausoleum. Over time, this temple was called Huilong Temple, and now the ruins of the Taoist temple are nowhere to be found. Nowadays, people often mistakenly think that the former site of a temple in the south of Huilongguan Village is the former site of Huilongguan, but it is not the case. There is also an old temple site of equal size in the north of the village. The two temples are just the ancient temples of Huilongguan Village, commonly known as the South Temple and the North Temple. It has nothing to do with Xuanfu Guan. In the old days, there were temples in nearby villages, and most of them were two in the north and south. Now, there is a protected old locust tree east of Huilongguan Station and north of the railway. It is a relic of the South Temple of Beidian Village, the original village here. At that time, there was an iron bell from the Qing Dynasty hanging on the tree. Where there is a north store, there is a south store. The original location of the south store is the current "Kuan House". The North and South Stores are also collectively known as Loess Stores because they are rich in loess.

Most of the loess on the loess mat road of Qingshui Po Street when the emperor of the Ming Dynasty visited his mausoleum was collected here. Now the two villages have disappeared and moved to Beidian Jiayuan and Longxiang Community, and Nandian New Village.

But before the construction of Huilongguan Community, the core area of ??this area was not the current Huilongguan Village. It is the current location of the Beijiao Farm Office. It is the open space north of the current Huilongguan Hotel. That was the original site of Beijiao Farm Office (now Longguan Building). The original three-story office building has been demolished and a commercial residential building is to be built here. The Beijiao Farm was first called the China-Vietnam Friendship People's Commune. After tensions between China and Vietnam, it was renamed the China-Japan Friendship People's Commune. Later, the communes were abolished and converted into farms, with jurisdiction over all towns and their agricultural and sideline industries ranging from Shahe in the north, Xisanqi in the south, Dongsanqi in the east, and Huilongguan in the west.

Now Huilongguan Community is located to the east of this core area. At that time, except for a few rows of blue-brick bungalows in farm offices, it was basically farmland. There were also Sanhezhuang (now Fengya Garden), Zhouzhuang (now Yunqu Garden), Beidian (now Longteng Garden), Liangzhuang (now Matrix Garden) community) these villages. The earliest residential area here is what is now the Beijiao Farm Family Courtyard. The rows of bungalows are more than 30 years old. Later, the farm government building was built, becoming the earliest building here. Although it was only a three-story red brick building, it was also the tallest building here at that time. This was more than twenty years ago. A few years later, the first dormitory building began to be built in the northern suburbs farm, and high-rise residential buildings began to appear here. This building is the current Building No. 1 of the Farm Family Courtyard and has a history of 20 years. Later, buildings No. 2 to No. 6 were built one after another, and a large-scale residential building group began to appear here.

After Beijing began to implement housing reform and the real estate boom occurred, the farm decided to relocate its subsidiary chemical plant to the northern suburbs and build residential buildings on the factory site. This is now Longhuayuan Community. At the same time, a ten-mile long street will be built to connect Huilongguan and Huoying to prepare for the future development of the eastern part of Huilongguan. The current main road of Huilongguan Community, Huilongguan East Street, was built on the basis of Shili Long Street. This road is also one of the only remaining road sites here. Later, Huayuan Real Estate purchased the land from the west of the farm family courtyard to the current Badaling Expressway to build a residential community, which is now Huihua Garden.

After the Beijing Municipal Government implemented the construction of affordable housing, Tianhong Group took a fancy to Huilongguan, a geomantic treasure land, and began to invest in the development and construction of Huilongguan Cultural Residential Community. Since then it has become the largest construction site in Beijing. After several years of construction, the completion of the first, second and now sixth phases of the community has brought about earth-shaking changes in this place. The former farmland is now lined with high-rise buildings, and the streets are now asphalt. People from all directions gather here to start... new life.

Looking at this place again, I am deeply moved. Huilongguan has changed from a village to a city!
