The Historical Evolution of Yuan Kui Tower

Yuan Kui Tower, commonly known as Songkou Tower, is located in Pan Tong Village in the lower reaches of Meijiang River, 8 kilometers away from Songkou Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City. It was founded in the forty-seventh year of Wanli (16 19) and completed in the second year of Chongzhen (1629), which took 10 years. According to legend, this is because he failed to go to Beijing four times after his trip to Xieyuan in 2002. He felt that the beauty of the mountains and rivers at the exit of Meixi in Songkou was not good, and he wanted to build a tower to make up for the lack of "Feng Shui". The tower is built at the corner of Songkou River. The tower is a pavilion, octagonal, with 7 floors and a height of more than 40 meters. The top of the tower is embedded with an iron-cast treasure gourd. The base is about 1.5 meters in diameter and weighs 10000 kilograms. So far, no one can tell how it was put on the top of the tower. The bottom of the tower is mainly square granite, and the rest layers are all made of blue bricks.

Yuan Kui Building is located on the parasol beside Meijiang River in Songkou Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City, about 50 kilometers away from Meizhou City and 4 kilometers away from Songkouwei Town. This pagoda is the oldest and well-preserved ancient pagoda in Meixian District. Guangdong Post Office used ten famous towers as stamps in 1982, and Yuan Kui Tower was one of them.

Yuan Kui Tower was built in the sixth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (16 19) and completed in the sixth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (1629), lasting 10. It was built by Li Shichun (No.2 He), assistant minister and academician of the Yi official department. It is said that Li Shichun went to Beijing four times after Jie Yuan, and all of them were defeated. He thinks that the "beautiful mountains and rivers" at the exit of Meixi in Songkou are to repair the tower and make up for the "Feng Shui". The tower is built at the corner of Songkou River. When it was first built, the tower was named "Songkou Tower". In the second year of Li Shichun's Zhonghuikui (1629), it was renamed "Yuan Kui Tower".
