1869, French biologist armand David discovered the world's first giant panda in Dengchigou, Baoxing County, Ya 'an, Sichuan Province, and made a specimen and shipped it to France, which became the "treasure of the Paris Museum" and made a sensation in the world. Since the founding of New China, Ya 'an, Sichuan has successively provided 136 pandas to the country, of which 18 was given as a "national gift" to the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany and other countries and regions.

Up to now, there are 6 giant pandas born overseas in Bifengxia Base, including Huamei, the first giant panda born overseas and returned to China, including 5 in the United States (Huamei, Meisheng, Taishan, Surin and Pearl Krabs) and 1 in Austria. At present, a total of 13 giant pandas live in research centers in the United States, Austria, Japan, Thailand, Australia and other countries. While being welcomed and cared for by people all over the world, it has also brought joy and enhanced friendship to people all over the world. In order to show the great achievements made by the China government in actively carrying out international cooperation in giant panda research and protection for many years, and to show the living conditions of giant pandas returned from the research center, the China Research Center for the Protection of Giant Pandas decided to transform the old Leopard Mountain area in Bifengxia base into the only "returned giant panda paradise" in the world at present.
