Core tip: In ancient China, the supreme ruler was the emperor, and the dragon was the totem of the Chinese nation and a symbol of supreme power. People generally believed that the emperor came from the world under the dragon, so in order to consolidate power, The emperor regarded himself as the real dragon emperor. In short, in ancient times, the dragon represented the emperor, and anyone who offended it would have offended the emperor. However, in ancient times, why did emperors often take great pains to build dragon wells and trap the dragons in the wells with iron chains?
Suolongjing attracted people’s attention in 2005 when the Suolongjing was dug out in the Beixinqiao subway in Beijing. It is said that this Longsuojing was built by Ming Dynasty counselors Liu Bowen and Yao Shao for King Zhu Di of Yan. There are two large iron chains hanging on this Longsuojing. Legend has it that it was to lock a Yuanxing dragon underground. Sometimes people are curious, and after pulling out part of the iron chain, they can hear a "hoo" sound, but so far no one has dared to pull it out. In order not to damage this Longjing Well, the Beijing Subway No. 5 has detoured several kilometers for this purpose.
In addition to Beixinqiao in Beijing, there is also a famous Suolong Well in Cangxiang, Nanjing. According to historical records, Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang dreamed of two eight-clawed golden dragons biting each other in the sky one night, and he woke up from his dream. He hurriedly asked Liu Bowen to interpret his dream. Liu Bowen said that he needed to use seventy-two earthly evil methods to subdue the golden dragon. So Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Liu Bowen to build seventy-two wells to serve as the ground. In the center, he dug a hundred-foot-deep Suolong Well and cast two dragon wells. A thick iron chain wrapped around the dragon's body, causing it to lie on the ground.
There are many folk legends about locking dragon wells, but the dragon wells built in ancient times actually had only one purpose, which was to lock the dragons underground. It turns out that in ancient times, there were many types of dragons. Among the people, dragons are often evil dragons that cause floods, while the emperor is a real dragon and is supreme. The construction of Suolongjing actually reflects the Chinese nation's thousands of years of water control ideals and imitates the legend of Dayu who locked up dragons when he was controlling floods. However, after further research, I found that there is actually some scientific reason for locking Longjing. The accumulated iron chains can block the spring water spouting from the underground river. When it rains a lot, the water level rises and the underground river pressure is too high, and it will spray water. In ancient times, only iron chains could be used. The chain accumulation method is used to block the spring.
