Most mosques in China have been built or rebuilt since the Yuan Dynasty, especially since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Mosques in Ming Dynasty have distinctive China characteristics in general layout, architectural types, architectural decoration and courtyard treatment. The Qing Dynasty was the peak of Islamic architecture development in China, and the unique architectural system of China Mosque was fully formed at this time.
Most mosques in China use traditional quadrangles in China, and often use a series of quadrangles. It is characterized by orderly and rhythmically arranging a number of quadrangles along a central axis, forming a complete spatial sequence: each quadrangle has its own unique functional requirements and artistic characteristics, and gradually deepens.
Xi Anhuajue Lane Mosque is the representative work of this kind of architecture. The overall plan of the temple is a long and narrow rectangle, with a length of 245.68 meters from east to west and a width of 47.56 meters from north to south, with a total area of 1 1684.54 square meters. The whole temple is divided into four courtyards, each of which is a quadrangle model, with a main hall, a temple and a gatehouse, which run through from front to back. The zhaobi in the middle of the east courtyard wall is the starting point of the central axis of the whole temple. On this central axis, the main buildings such as the wooden raft building, the "five rooms" (the second door), the stone archway, the repair hall (the third door), the worrying building (the bunker building), the third door (the fourth door), the phoenix pavilion, the platform and the worship hall are arranged in turn. On both sides of the central axis, there are monuments, stone workshops, north and south halls, wing rooms, gatehouses and other ancillary buildings, which are symmetrically and orderly arranged.
This complete architectural layout is basically reflected in Beijing Dongsi Mosque, niujie Worship Mosque, Yunnan Dali Laonanmen Mosque, Henan Qinyang Muslim North Mosque, Zhengzhou Mosque, Anhui Shouxian Mosque, Shandong Jining Mosque and Jinan Mosque.
