Why is Sichuan called "Sichuan" instead of "Sanchuan" and "Wuchuan"

Because in the Northern Song Dynasty, Sichuan Gorge Road in Sichuan Basin was divided into Zizhou Road, Yizhou Road, Lizhou Road and Kuizhou Road, which were collectively called Sichuan Road. During this period, the imperial court set up official positions such as Sichuan appeasement ambassador and Sichuan Fu Xuan ambassador. Later, people called this place Sichuan for short. The climate here is suitable and the four seasons are distinct, so it is called the land of abundance.

Sichuan has a long history. 25,000 years ago, human civilization began to appear in Sichuan, and the ancient Shu civilization represented by Sanxingdui Site, Jinsha Site and Baodun Culture was formed in the Neolithic Age. Ancient Shu civilization, Huaxia civilization and Liangzhu civilization are called the three ancient civilizations in China. During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up thirteen counties throughout the country. At this time, the jurisdiction of Yizhou is roughly equivalent to the current Sichuan Basin, forming the embryonic form of Sichuan. Later, Liu Bei proclaimed himself emperor here, with the title of Shu Han. In the Song Dynasty, because the four roads here were collectively called Sichuan Road, this place was called Sichuan.

Second, the geographical characteristics of Sichuan Sichuan is located in the southwest of China, bordering Shaanxi, Qinghai and Gansu in the north, Yunnan and Guizhou in the south, Chongqing in the east and Tibet in the west. It is an important intersection of Central China and South China, connecting southwest and northwest. It is located in the transition zone between the first and second levels in Chinese mainland, with plateau mountains in the west and basins and hills in the east. The western Sichuan Basin is located in the earthquake zone, with active crustal movement and frequent earthquakes.
