South Asia has a very good geographical location, so why is there no developed country?

Good geographical location is not an inevitable condition for becoming a developed country. Israel's geographical location is worse than most countries in the world, and its land is barren and resources are scarce. However, Israel is a developed country. It is not easy to become a developed country. Looking around the world, developed countries are mainly concentrated in Europe, North America and Oceania. Europe is the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, and the countries in North America and Oceania have a somewhat "blood relationship" with Europe. After World War II, only a few countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Israel were able to develop into developed countries.

South Asia is located in southern Asia. It borders the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west. It has a land area of ??about 4.3 million square kilometers. There are 7 countries in the world, namely India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. , Bhutan and the Maldives. Among these seven countries, the island country with the highest level of development is the Maldives, but its per capita GDP is only about US$10,000. The other countries are basically relatively poor and backward countries in Asia.

The GDP of South Asia in 2018 was approximately US$3.4 trillion, but the total population of South Asia is close to 1.8 billion, of which India has a population of more than 1.3 billion, Pakistan has a population of nearly 200 million, and Bangladesh has a population of more than 160 million. This country is one of the top ten most populous countries in the world. The per capita GDP of the entire South Asia region is less than 2,000 US dollars, and the level of development is relatively low.

India’s economy has developed rapidly in recent years. In 2018, India’s GDP reached 2.72 trillion US dollars, ranking seventh in the world. It can be regarded as an economic power, but India will soon surpass China and become the world’s number one. For a country with a large population, its current per capita GDP is only around US$2,000. It is still far from becoming a developed country. Nepal and Bhutan are landlocked countries in the southern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and their economies are very backward; Pakistan and Bangladesh are densely populated, and their economies are mainly based on agriculture, with some primary manufacturing industries. The two island countries of Sri Lanka and the Maldives have superior geographical location and relatively fast economic development. These two countries are easier to develop. In the future, their development level is expected to continue to be at the forefront of South Asia.
