About the history of Fuzhou Cangshan

Chen Jinggu (also known as Jingu, Jinggu) is a patron saint of women and children that is generally respected by people in Fuzhou. Her honorific titles include Mrs. Linshui Chen, Mrs. Big Breast, Empress Dowager Chen, Mrs. Shunyi, The Holy Mother of Suncheon and others are commonly known as Niang Nai and Lin Shui Nai.

It is said that Chen Jinggu was born in Xiadu (now Xiateng Road, Fuzhou City) in the second year of Dali of Tang Dynasty (762). There is an ancestral temple of Xu Zhenjun in Xiachi of Cangshan Mountain (today's Gongnong Road area). There is an old wooden house near the temple. The local old man said that Chen Jinggu was born in the wooden house, so it was called the ancestral house. But in the past, legends said that his ancestral home was in the original "Jinglu" opposite the current Heling Hospital on Liuyi South Road. A villager from Xiachi explained: "My mother-in-law's ancestral home was originally in Xiachi, but she later moved to Jinglu."

Chen Jinggu has been yearning for Taoism since she was a child, and she wanted to study Dharma. When she grew up, her parents engaged her to Gutian Liu Qilian and were about to hold a wedding for her. She refused the marriage and ran away. She went to Lushan to learn magic from Xu Zhenjun and received ten heavenly books. After that, she came down the mountain. In the past eight years, he has eliminated monsters and monsters in the local area, especially protected women and children, and done many good deeds beneficial to the people. When I was twenty-four years old, there was a long drought in Fuzhou. The fields were dry and cracked, and the people were miserable. Chen Jinggu, who was pregnant at this time, disregarded her personal safety and left home. Holding a sword and a horn, she went to Longtanjiao (in the middle of the river between today's Cangqian Road and Jiangxin Park) to pray for rain. Due to the intrusion of monsters and ghosts, the situation became worse. She was born prematurely and was physically weak, so she sacrificed her young life for the people. It is said that under the water of Longtanjiao is the Lushan Court, and the master of the law, Xu Zhenjun Xu Xun, is Chen Jinggu’s master. Legend has it that after Chen Jinggu died, she became a god and went to Xu Zhenjun to learn the magic of assisting and rescuing babies. The legendary sites of Chen Jinggu in Cangshan, in addition to the above-mentioned Xiadu, Xiachi, and Longtanjiao, there are also the caves of the Changkeng ghost in Changkeng Mountain (today's most of the Fujian Normal School buildings), Linshui Queen Mother Chen's Ancestral Temple (today's Shangteng Road City No. 2 In a residential building opposite the hospital).
