Fengwei Pagoda in Hu Ming, Xiamen

Passing through the middle section of Hu Ming Road in Lianban District, I found an ancient stone pagoda on the roadside.

Curious, step by step, take a closer look. The tower foundation made of stone strips has six floors, the lower three floors are square, the fourth floor is oblate, the fifth floor is octagonal, and the sixth floor is square, with Buddha reliefs on all sides and octagonal tower eaves at the top. From bottom to top, the tower gradually shrinks, tall and straight, generous, simple and spectacular.

I consulted several old people nearby and said that this pagoda has existed for a long time, but the historical background of the stone pagoda is not clear. After looking through the historical materials, I know that this ancient stone pagoda is called "Wind Tail Pagoda". At that time, there was an island called Fengtouyu near Miaodang Port (now called Miaodang Lake), which became land after reclamation. There are two stone pagodas, corresponding to "Fengtouyu", commonly known as "Fengwei Pagoda", but one of them was destroyed. The lower three floors of the stone tower are hollow. On May 1938 and 10, Japanese invaders attacked Daitou, and several villagers hid in the tower to avoid the sweeping. Regarding the age of the stone pagoda, Professor Zhuang of Xiamen University identified it as Song Dynasty according to the photos.

Looking at this stone pagoda, I suddenly remembered that there is a Guandi Temple near the junction of Cihu Lake and Shuang Yi Wetland in Guningtou, Jinmen, and there is a town water tower near the temple, commonly known as Shuiwei Tower. The ancient style of stone pagoda is similar to that of Fengwei Pagoda, which belongs to Feng Shui Pagoda. It is said that since the establishment of the water tower, the seawater in Cihu Lake has only flooded to the bottom of the tower and naturally subsided, so the locals believe in the power of the water tower.

Understand the "Water Tail Tower". The shape of the draft tower is a building with a wide bottom and a top. This used to be the place where Buddhists put Buddhist relics. After the tower was introduced into China, it had different names according to its different functions, such as wind water tower, exorcism tower and water tail tower.
