Why did the ancient mysterious alchemy achieve great development in the Wei and Jin Dynasties alone?

Witchcraft, physiognomy, dream divination, and feng shui in onmyoji are all ways in which people can sense and control the mysterious world of so-called ghosts and gods. These four ancient secret arts were basically developed during the Qin, Han and Warring States periods. However, they had just been developed during that period, and everything still seemed particularly ignorant.

The witchcraft is similar to what we see in TV dramas, that is, witches and gods use magic, witchcraft, spells and other means to influence or control certain people. The most famous voodoo incident in history is the "Trouble at the Beginning". The Qin family, a witch who had made great achievements in "spiritual preaching", was canonized as the Tongtian Witch God by Liu Yu, Emperor Wu of the Song Dynasty. However, after Liu Yu's death, Liu Xun, his younger brother Liu Jun, and Princess Dongyang hooked up with the witch, and even collaborated with the witch to use dolls, incense tables, and spells to kill their biological father. After the incident was exposed, the two brothers took a knife and hacked their father to death in the palace.

Physiognomy uses a person’s facial features, bones, complexion, body posture, hand lines, etc. to infer good or bad luck. The physiognomy of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties inherited the achievements of the Qin and Han Dynasties and developed further. There was an allusion during the Three Kingdoms period. Cao Cao's eldest son Cao Pi was very panicked because the King of Wei had not established a crown prince for a long time. So I asked Gao Yuan Lu, a master of fortune-telling, about this matter. Gao Yuan Lu said, "Your face is priceless, and when you reach the age of forty, you have nothing to worry about." Sure enough, Cao Pi became emperor, and at the age of forty, Cao Pi fell seriously ill and died.

Dream divination is the interpretation of dreams. This art originated in the Huangdi period and developed to its heyday during the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. And now it also exists in our lives today, especially roadside stalls in some scenic spots. In ancient times, dream fortune-telling was legendary. It was said that dream fortune tellers could build a bridge between humans and gods. Zhang Mao of the Eastern Jin Dynasty once dreamed that someone gave him an elephant, but Wan Tui analyzed it and said, "You will be a high official, but you will not end well." Then Wan Tui said, "The elephant is a big beast, and the beast means "guarding." Therefore. You will be a high official in the future, but elephants often become prey and harm others because of their precious teeth.” Later, Zhang Mao was recruited as internal historian. Soon Shen Chongzhi rebelled and eradicated Zhang Mao, his dissident.

Feng Shui achieved unprecedented development in the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties mainly because it was closely related to people's lives and became a science during the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. "The place where the cow sleeps" has always been said by ordinary people. The protagonist of the story is named Tao Kan. Tao Kan buried his dead father in the place where the cow sleeps. This place where the cow sleeps is an immortal who guided Tao Kan and said, "This land The land can benefit future generations." Tao Kan was indeed very lucky, and he worked his way up to an important military and political position in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

In fact, the origin of alchemy can be traced back to ancient times. The thought of great unity and Confucianism in the Qin and Han Dynasties declined, which objectively gave alchemy a lot of room for development, and all aspects have been improved. Especially since the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Alchemy has been influenced by Buddhism and Taoism, and the mysticism of karma has gradually attached itself to it. As a result, everyone from the emperors and ministers to the common people were obsessed with various alchemy techniques. This is why Fang Shu developed and expanded in the Wei and Jin Dynasties.
