Chengdu, also known as Rongcheng and Jincheng, is the capital of Sichuan Province, an important national high-tech industrial base, trade and logistics center, a national historical and cultural city, the birthplace of ancient Shu civilization, and one of the top ten ancient capitals in China.
In the 4th century BC, Ming Kai Dynasty IX was named Chengdu for "gathering in one year, becoming a city in two years and Chengdu in three years". Seven separatist regimes established their capitals here. Chengdu is the best tourist city in China, with Dujiangyan, Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Cottage and Jinsha Site. Chengdu, located in the west of Sichuan Basin, has enjoyed the reputation of "Land of Abundance" since ancient times because of its criss-crossing river network and rich products.
Chengdu is one of the first national historical and cultural cities, the best tourist city in China and an excellent tourist destination in the world. UNESCO awarded Chengdu the title of "Food Capital of the World". Chengdu has two World Heritage Sites and two World Reserved Heritage Sites. It is the city with the largest number of world heritage projects in central and western China and the "most famous cultural city in China" with a history of 3,200 years.
There are many historical sites and cultural landscapes in Chengdu, such as Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Caotang, Yongling, Wangjianglou, Qingyang Palace, Wenshuyuan, ming tomb and Zhaojue Temple. Chengdu is also the habitat of Sichuan giant pandas and has a world-famous giant panda base.
