The rules are as follows:
1, age basis
Players participating in the draft must be at least 19 years old, based on the draft year before 65438+February 3 1. Non-international players, graduated from high school at least 1 year.
2. announce your candidacy
Native American players who have reached the age of 22 and completed college will automatically qualify for the draft. Players who do not automatically qualify for the election should inform the league in writing of their willingness to stand for election two months before the draft.
3. International players
The NBA defines an international player as someone who has not attended high school or university in the United States and has lived outside the United States for at least three years. Any international athlete over the age of 22 will be automatically eligible to participate in the election. International players under the age of 22, who have reached the age of 19, can be eligible for election by sending a written notice to the NBA 45 days before the NBA draft.
4. Withdrawal rules
The NBA has negotiated with NCAA to formulate rules. If local college players in the United States have not signed a contract with their agents, they can still go back to college to play after losing the election. However, according to NCAA regulations, before May 8, if a college student player who signed up for the NBA draft does not quit, the player will be disqualified from the university regardless of whether he is selected by the NBA team. This means that if college players don't quit the draft before May 8th, they will be disqualified from participating in the college league regardless of whether they hire agents or not.
5. Lotto draw
Before the introduction of lottery in the league, the team with the worst record can get the top draft, so many teams that can't make the playoffs deliberately staged the top draft at the end of the season. In order to alleviate this situation, the league began to introduce lottery tickets from 1985. The general process and principle are as follows:
1. Before the draw, the teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs had been ranked in reverse order according to the regular season record, and obtained the corresponding number of first prize combinations (probability). Among the teams participating in the lottery, the worst performance in the regular season was divided into 250 combinations, and the best was only 5 combinations. All teams got the combination of *** 1000.
2. In the lucky draw, the host will take out 1- 14 ping-pong balls and put them in a container, and randomly select 4 balls from 14 balls, regardless of numerical order. A * * can produce 100 1. If the number of selected combinations is exactly the abandoned combination of11-12-13-14, re-select.
3. After the draw for No.1 draft, four table tennis balls were put back into the container, and the ownership of No.2 and No.3 draft picks was decided again. After that, the remaining No.4-30 draft picks in the first and second rounds were decided in reverse order according to the results of the regular season.
6. Draft order
The NBA draft is divided into two rounds, and each team has the first-round draft right and the second-round draft right, without any transaction or punishment. Because draft picks can be traded, it may happen that one team has multiple draft picks and one team has no draft picks. However, the NBA prohibits any team from trading first-round draft picks for two consecutive years, and teams can only exchange draft picks in the next five years. 14 teams that failed to enter the playoffs participated in the lottery to decide the first place, second place and the ownership of the lottery. After the top three draft picks in the first round are determined, they are arranged in reverse order according to the regular season record from the fourth place in the first round.
7. Rookie signing
According to the labor agreement, the first-round rookie was awarded a contract of 2+ 1+ 1. The contract for the first two years is fully guaranteed, and the contract for the third and fourth years is an option for the team. The salary amount is stipulated by the league, and the team can fluctuate from 80% to 120% of the amount stipulated by the league. The league authorizes teams to sign contracts with first-round rookies, and teams that exceed the salary cap can sign contracts with first-round rookies without using special terms. If the team fails to sign with the first-round rookie within the stipulated validity period, the player will be regarded as an unsuccessful rookie and can sign with any team. The team has the right to give up the second round rookie. If you sign a contract with a second-round rookie, the team must use salary space or special terms. In view of the preciousness of special terms, the second-round rookie usually can only get a basic salary contract, which is guaranteed for up to two years. Players who lose the draft are free to sign up for NBA teams.
8. Novice trading
Rookie can't transfer within 30 days after signing with the team. If the selected rookie doesn't sign a contract, his trading salary is as zero as the draft sign. If the rookie is abandoned by the team, he will become a completely free agent. If the rookie refuses to sign with the team that chooses him, the team will not agree to give up or trade the rookie. The rookie cannot sign with other NBA teams within 1 year, and the team that chooses him has the priority to sign in the NBA. If a player signs a contract with a non-NBA team, choosing his NBA team will retain the priority of signing a contract with the non-NBA team until the contract between the player and the non-NBA team is terminated 1 year. In other cases, the team that chooses the player has the signing right of the player before the next draft day.
