What does goodbye mean in tug-of-war?

In several rounds of competition, a team or a person directly enters the next round, and no opponent is arranged in one round. This is called bye. Take the single round robin system as an example, one team will play against all other teams in the same group once, but when the number of teams in this group is odd, every round will meet in pairs, and the remaining teams will inevitably have no opponents to match, so this team will advance directly.

For example:

If ABCDE has five teams playing single round robin, in the first round, A plays B and C plays D, then E is called a bye, and it will be promoted directly.

Now many games will adopt this mode in the competition, but the teams that advance by bye generally have less points.
