From 20 10 to 20 10, most of the ancient buildings in China are wood structures. Once they encounter a fire, the consequences will be unimaginable. Many magnificent palaces and temples in history were destroyed by fire. So the fear of fire is reflected in the worship of Vulcan.
According to records from 0755 to 79000, in the early years of the Republic of China, there were 17 fire temples in Beijing alone. Now, there are Shichahai Fire Temple, Liulichang Fire Temple, Ancient Fire Temple and Huashi Fire Temple.
Among the many fire temples in Beijing, the largest, oldest and most legendary one is the Shichahai Fire Temple located outside Di 'anmen and beside Shichahai. Shihai Fire Temple, formerly known as Huode Zhenjun Temple, is the lower hall of Quanzhen Taoist ancestral hall Baiyun Temple. According to the General Survey of Beiping Temples and Brief Introduction to the Scenery of the Imperial Capital, the Huode Zhenjun Temple was built in Zhenguan of the Tang Dynasty for six years, with a history of 1300 years.
At the beginning of the construction of the Shihai Fire Temple, there was still a swamp around it. There was no stagnant pool in Yuan Dynasty, and there was no dense commercial market in Ming and Qing Dynasties. From the end of Yuan Dynasty to the sixth year (1346), Shichahai was dredged manually, and the scenery became more beautiful. At the same time, the Shichahai Fire Temple has also been extensively repaired. With its golden glass, hidden in the ripples of the lake, it became a good place for self-cultivation at that time.
The original roof of Shihai Fire Temple is grey tile, with archways inside and outside. In the thirty-third year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1605), it was changed to blue glazed tiles to show the royal reverence for the true king, He De. When it was rebuilt in the 24th year of Qianlong (1759), the top of the mountain gate and the back pavilion were paved with yellow glazed tiles, which made the whole temple more spectacular.
The Temple of Fire has three courtyards. The main hall is a "Long En" plaque inscribed during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and the statue of Wang Lingguan is enshrined in the hall. There is a "Sina Utilization" plaque titled "Qinggan Yulong" hanging in Huozutang. The couplet reads: "Mo Shuren, auspicious achievement; _ _ Deliver the order and repair it only in Syria and the United States. " Behind the pavilion is the Royal Pavilion, which contains the inscription "Long live Jingling Pavilion" and the inscription "Shoushou Baoting" changed by Qing Emperor Qianlong, dedicated to the Jade Emperor.
In the past, whenever there was a fire in the palace, the emperor would send officials to the temple of fire to offer sacrifices to Vulcan. In the emperor's view, the Vulcan of the Shichahai Fire Temple is the most experienced and effective. According to the textual research of Old News of the Sun, on the eve of Emperor Guangxu's wedding, a fire broke out in the palace, and the Taihe Gate and the East-West Hall were burned. Empress Dowager Cixi was frightened. Accompanied by the minister and Li, she went to the Fire Temple in Shichahai to burn incense and pray for the peace of Vulcan.
After the founding of China, the Shichahai Fire Temple was once the guest house of the PLA's anti-chemical soldiers and also used by the families of the traffic team of the Public Security Bureau. Now, the first phase of the maintenance of Shichahai Fire Temple has ended, the second and third phases of the project will be launched one after another, and the archway in front of the temple will also be repaired. By then, Huode Zhenjun Temple will become another special scenic spot in Shichahai area.
