New rules of international skating Federation

On June 9, 2022, the General Assembly of the International Skating Union (ISU) held in Phuket, Thailand passed a resolution to gradually raise the minimum age of adult figure skating groups from 15 to 17. At the same time, the program content of the competition will be changed from five to three.

According to the resolution, the minimum age of flower skating competition in 2022-2023 season is still 15 years old, and it will be raised to 16 years old in 2023-2024 season and to 17 years old in 2024-2025 season. The International Skating Federation said that the resolution aims to protect the physical and mental health of young athletes.

In addition, the General Assembly of the International Skating Union also decided to change the content of figure skating from skating, continuous skating, performance, arrangement and explanation to arrangement, skating and performance.

The parties reacted differently.

The proposal to raise the minimum age of competition has been passed. Although it has been supported by most people in the industry, there are still voices of opposition.

At the recent meeting of the International Skating Federation, a representative from Israel suggested that such a rule change would bring greater impact and influence to countries with fewer skaters.
