Dreaming that he was beaten (13-year-old boy hit himself against the wall in a long dream)

Text | Parent-child psychologist Xu

Xiao Jian, a boy of 13 years old, is a schoolmaster with good grades. During the day, he looks like other children. But when he sleeps at night, he will hurt himself in his dream, hit his head against the wall, hit his face hard, and cry while hitting, knocking over the tiles on the bedside and damaging the bed board.

His parents took him to many hospitals and did many brain CT scans, but the cause was not found.

In an interview, the boy said that at first, because of curiosity, he liked to watch ghost films before going to bed, and he always dreamed of ghosts at night, which led to the terrible behavior of "self-mutilation in dreams". Later, he stopped watching and had nightmares for more than two years.

Dreams are the reflection of one's subconscious mind and the truest thoughts in one's heart. As early as 1930s, the psychologist Freud revealed the subconscious mind that influenced people's thoughts and behaviors through the scientific interpretation of dreams.

Freud pointed out that dreams are the satisfaction of desires. People's fundamental desires are restricted by ego, superego morality and society, and are suppressed in the depths of the subconscious. During sleep, due to the relaxation of the supervision of the superego, repressed impulses and desires are integrated into consciousness and become dreams.

Satya, the most influential psychotherapist in the United States, also has a famous personal inner iceberg metaphor:

If we compare consciousness to an iceberg, when we are awake, everyone presents only the surface part of the iceberg, that is, the behavior part, what they have done, how to behave and so on. The reasons, feelings, opinions, expectations, desires, self-cognition, etc. for really doing these things are all influenced and restricted by various factors, and often cannot be expressed at will. But these feelings exist, they are hidden in the subconscious. People are most relaxed when they are asleep, without conscious control and restraint. The part below the surface of the iceberg is revealed by dreams.

Dreams can reflect a person's psychological state, and many psychological signals will appear in dreams. Dreams themselves are a good carrier, and nightmares are not a bad thing. With dreams, we can better link the subconscious, understand the real thoughts through dream interpretation, and then change ourselves and improve our lives.

Through this dream, we can see that Xiao Jian's inner secret is special. Although he cut himself, slapped his face and hit his head against the wall in his sleep for a long time, he didn't know about these behaviors.

If what he said is true and he doesn't remember what dream he had, then the boy separated from himself in his sleep. This often happens because of great pressure and deep trauma.

Xiao Jian said that he liked watching ghost movies two years ago, and he always dreamed of ghosts at night, and he had the terrible behavior of "self-mutilation in dreams".

It can be seen that when watching ghost movies, Xiao Jian had delusions and worries about being abused and persecuted, which was also the reason for "self-mutilation in a dream". Two years ago, he was 1 1 year old. 1 1 year-old, at the boundary stage of concrete operation and formal operation in a child's cognitive development, has strong imitation ability.

Clapping your hands against the wall in Xiao Jian's Dream may be a delay in imitating the characters in ghost films. Boys used to be tyrants, with rich imagination and strong memory, and they also have deep feelings for the characters in ghost films. Therefore, the situation of self-harm in dreams is more prominent and serious.

Why not watch ghost movies for two years and continue to "self-harm in dreams"? If the boy's initial "dream of self-mutilation" is due to the generalization of fear caused by watching ghost films, then why has he stopped watching ghost films for more than two years, or has he been dreaming of self-mutilation?

This may be due to two reasons:

Parents repeatedly strengthen "self-mutilation in dreams"

It is reported that the boy's parents have recorded videos of his self-mutilation in his dreams many times, so they must show them to him, and repeatedly ask him if he remembers the scenes in his dreams and his feelings at that time. They may constantly remind him not to do anything dangerous during the day and not to watch any horrible movies and TV dramas to avoid self-mutilation at night. In addition, many times seeking medical treatment failed. On the one hand, it will be repeatedly mentioned to people, deepening the boy's fear. On the other hand, there will be an interview. "I'm going to get sick for the baby" is very painful. Obviously, this kind of "disease" is particularly bad in a family's mind, especially painful, unavoidable and even incurable.

The parents' performance aggravated Xiao Jian's fear of "self-mutilation in a dream".

The boy has a serious sense of self-blame and anxiety.

The constant negative reinforcement of adults has made "self-mutilation in dreams" a traumatic experience for Xiao Jian, which has caused him great psychological harm and great psychological pressure, which is equivalent to the fear of watching ghost films.

And Xiao Jian will also have a deep sense of self-blame, blaming himself for not watching the ghost film, and this kind of self-harm behavior will not happen. In addition, he is a schoolmaster himself. Now he has a bad sleep at night for a long time, and he is sleepy in class during the day, which has an impact on his study, and he will have a deep anxiety and worry about the decline of his grades.

These realistic problems are intertwined with negative emotions and psychological hints, which have a great psychological impact on Xiao Jian, even equivalent to the fear of ghost films, which is even more terrible for him. Therefore, although I haven't seen ghost movies for more than two years, "self-mutilation in dreams" continues.

There are three suggestions that heart disease should be treated with cardiac drugs. Since Xiao Jiannao has no pathological changes, it shows that his condition is not caused by organic diseases, but by psychology. It is suggested to relieve Xiao Jian's psychology from the following aspects to gradually get rid of the current situation:

Tell children that "self-mutilation in dreams" is not so terrible. You can seek the help of a professional psychologist. It is not a bad thing for parents to interpret dreams from the heart.

As long as parents change their cognition, they will not overemphasize the self-harm in their dreams in front of their children, nor will they worry too much about scaring their children.

Parents adjust their mentality and let their children relax, no longer entangled and no longer fall into it.

Tell your child that when anyone does something wrong, don't blame the child for self-harm caused by watching ghost movies from the beginning. Tell your children that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Even if they do something wrong, it's nothing. Let children get rid of self-blame and guilt and stop self-blame.

Tell your child, "No matter how your grades are, your parents will always love you." During the interview, the boy's parents picked up his previous awards and showed them to reporters. Perhaps, in the eyes of adults, the good grades in the past are getting worse now, all caused by poor sleep.

This is tantamount to adding insult to injury, and it is also a heavy blow to children in a state of collapse.

Tell your children that no matter whether your grades are good or bad, parents love you!

Reduce the academic requirements for children, let children relax, get rid of troubles, decompress the mind, avoid repeated symptoms, and face their studies easily.

I wish my child a speedy recovery!
