Where do dreams come from?

Before saying "dream", let's talk about eight kinds of knowledge that all living beings have: eye knowledge, ear knowledge, nose knowledge, tongue knowledge, body knowledge, consciousness, ultimate knowledge and Aryan knowledge.

Anyone who knows a little about the Eight Senses knows that dreams can never be the first five senses, nor can they be the last five senses and Araya, so the answer is obvious. The so-called "dream" is the activity corresponding to the heart of the sixth consciousness during sleep.

Actually, the sixth consciousness is divided into leakage and non-leakage. The consciousness of buddhas and bodhisattvas is not leaking, while the consciousness of ordinary people is.

There is a sense of leakage, five things and loneliness; The five senses refer to the five senses, namely, eye knowledge and body knowledge, which work together with the sixth consciousness respectively or together. This kind of consciousness will only appear in the realm when you are awake, such as seeing colors, hearing voices, touching cold and hot, and so on.

A person's consciousness of walking is different. Work alone after leaving the senses such as eyes, ears, nose, tongue and body.

This also makes the range of loneliness consciousness very wide, which can be divided into three types: first, loneliness consciousness when awake and distracted; Second, through the training of rest and meditation, the consciousness of positioning and walking alone is obtained; Third, in the dream, the first five can't recognize the status quo, and only the sixth consciousness changes its own realm, which is the consciousness of walking alone in the dream.

There is a saying in "The Theory of Perception": "Sleep is sleep, which makes you uncomfortable, ignorant and hinders your career outlook." This means that when sleeping, ordinary people are uncomfortable. Therefore, when sleeping, the psychological function of emotion and the activity of sleeping heart become dreams together.

So, where did the dream come from?

As we know, sleep doesn't necessarily mean dreaming, so people in China have always thought that dreams represent some kind of omen or the story of another world. The former is like the Duke of Zhou, while the latter is like Wei Zhi's dragon slaying dream in The Journey to the West.

In Buddhism's On Dance, dreams probably come from five sources:

One of the "diseases" is the pathological condition caused by the four major disorders of the body. For example, when the body feels cold, it dreams of water, and when the body feels warm, it dreams of fire. This is actually a dream born of physiological relationship.

The second is "thinking": that is, when the mind wants something, restless feelings and thoughts will produce dreams.

Third, "Zeng Geng": that is to say, the habits left over from the past are repeated in dreams.

Fourth, "when there is": this is a bit like an omen, that is, what will be realized in the future was first discovered in my sleep. This kind of dream happens from time to time, but it is irregular.

Fifth, "he cited": this is a dream caused by human heart. But the word "he" covers a wide range, and all other relationships can be regarded as other references. For example, when mother and son miss each other, they will have such a common dream.

In any case, the consciousness in dreams is always weaker than when you are awake. Therefore, in Buddhist scriptures, it is believed that the consciousness in dreams can be controlled through considerable meditation and visualization.

Thus, the Buddha compared the consciousness of dreams to the emptiness and self-perception of ordinary people, while enlightenment and results were compared to the epiphany when waking from a big dream. This also leads to the purpose of the Buddha's dream interpretation, which is to hope that all beings will seek to break the great sleep after ignorance.
