Schwelien is surrounded by lakes, and the largest lake area, West Weilin Lake Area, covers an area of 60 square kilometers. In the middle of the lake area, there is an Auberdri settlement, which was founded in 1 1 century. This area used to be called Zuarin, but now the name Schwerin is obviously derived from this word. 1 160 Henry the lion defeated Aubrey and won Schwelien. The town subsequently developed into a powerful regional center.
From 65438 to 0358, Schwelien became a part of Mecklenburg Principality and an important base of the Principality. 1500 or so, started to build Shiweilin Castle; This is where the Duke lives. After the division of mecklenburg (162 1), Schwelien became the capital of mecklenburg-Schwelien Principality. Before the capital status was finally restored, that is, from 1765 to 1837, Les Town of Ludwig replaced Schwerin as the capital.
When Mecklenburg-Prepomerania was established in 1990, Schwelien became the capital of the state.
Scenic spot
The landmark of Schwelien is Schwelien Castle, which is located on an island of the same name in the lake (West Weilin Lake Area). This castle has been the residence of the Duke of mecklenburg for centuries and is now the seat of the state legislature.
Schwelien Cathedral, built in 1260-14 16, belongs to the brick Goethe style.
