Shangyu District belongs to Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is located in the east of Zhejiang Province, the northeast of Shaoxing City and the south bank of Qiantang River. It is adjacent to Yuyao City and Ningbo City in the east, Shengzhou City in the south, Keqiao District and Yuecheng District in the west, Qiantang River in the north and Haining City and Haiyan County in the north, with an area of 1.403 square kilometers. The terrain is high in the south and low in the north, and the areas of low mountains and hills in the south and plain of water network in the north are mixed, showing the pattern of "five mountains, one water and four fields".
Shangyu District is a comprehensive new city with riverside characteristics and perfect functions in the east of Shaoxing central city. It is a provincial regional transportation hub, Shaoxing business center and a new business capital in eastern Zhejiang. China has various expressways, high-speed trains, railways, ports and canals. Jiashao Bridge brings Shaoxing into Shanghai's two-hour traffic circle.

Cao 'e River is the fourth largest river in Zhejiang Province, which runs through the whole territory from south to north. Its main tributaries are Xiaoshunjiang River, Xiaguanxi River and Yintan River. The main artificial rivers are Xiaocao Canal, Yuyong Canal, Shili River, Shili River, Baili River and Tu Hai Central River.
The average inflow of water for many years is about 2.795 billion cubic meters, which is 3.33 times of the total water resources in the whole region. The main lakes are Xiaoyue Lake, Pogang Lake, Baima Lake, Chanba Lake, Zaoli Lake, Xixi Lake, Qi Xie Lake, Kangjia Lake and Hejiachi Lake (part of the water surface belongs to Keqiao District).
