Spiced Zen master's spiced behavior

In the 16th year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (728), a Korean monk "crossed the west coast" and came to Chang 'an, Kyoto, China (now Xi 'an, Shaanxi). This man turned out to be the third son of King Jin Xingguang of Silla. He became a monk in Nansi Temple in Silla County for supporting his sister to worship Buddha, and was called the "Golden Monk". After he arrived in Chang 'an, he was summoned by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty and inscribed in the Zen Temple. After living for a period of time, he went around looking for teachers to visit Taoism and came to Dechun Temple in Zizhou, Sichuan (now Ningzi County, Sichuan). He wanted to visit Zen master Zhiyi, the winner of kapok cassock, but Zhiyi died and was succeeded by his disciple Chuji. Knowing that monk Jin was coming, he told the monks to clean the temple. The next day, monk Jin did arrive, but the lonely Zen master said that he was ill and disappeared. Monk Jin burned his finger as a lamp outside the temple gate to show his sincerity and respect. When he is lonely, he is accepted as a disciple and given a name. Bourgeois still like to call him the "Golden Monk". Today, many people don't know if someone wants to ask Master Wu Xiang, but when it comes to monk Jin, most elderly people know.

Wuxiang studied Zen at Chuji's side for two years, and then went to Shiyan Gorge in Tiangushan (now Yuhegou), ten miles away from Dechun Temple, to practice the "Tudor Tour".

The ancient sky is a "Tian"-shaped valley, with a stream in the middle and stone walls as canyons on both sides. There is a huge cave under the rocks in the west, and there is no "meditation and Buddha walking" here. He is a prince of noble birth. He resolutely abandoned the rich life of the royal family and cut his hair and became a monk. His will is quite firm. Among the various sects of Buddhism, Zen is the most prepared, and the wise man Jiannan Zen is particularly strict. After loneliness, it used to be "less than 40 years", and no one strictly abides by this religious rule, no matter whether it is cold or hot. When he meditates, "every meditation takes five days", even if poisonous snakes and beasts come, he will feel at ease. One winter, two wild animals suddenly came and looked at him, bared their teeth and wanted to eat people. He lay naked in the snow, trying to feed the tiger like a mummy prince and benefit the country. The two wild animals sniffed him from head to toe. They didn't hurt him, but guarded him like dogs every night. He has lived in Yuhegou for a long time, and "grass clothes go on a diet and eat all the dirt". He was dressed in rags, unkempt, and his hair was long and messy, like a wild animal, and he was almost shot by a hunter. He remained unmoved and calm.

Later, his practice style seems to have changed a little. In addition to practicing meditation for five days, I spent the rest of my time wandering around like a leisurely cat. This incident was reported to Silence everywhere. Silence called him back to Dechun Temple and asked, "What are you doing in the ancient Tianshan Mountains?" He said, "Do nothing, just be busy". Chuji said happily, "If you are busy there, I will be busy there!" Master and apprentice are idle, but they all say they are busy. What are they busy with? It turns out that they can't remember, but they have never lost it; Doing nothing is not a violation. "This seemingly natural and unrestrained way of meditation, in fact, is very hard and never stops. It is another jiannan Zen style initiated by Zen master Zhi Yu.

In April of the 20th year of Kaiyuan (732), Wang Zhuo, a family member who was sent away by Jimmy, called Wuxiang back to Dechun Temple, and solemnly gave him a cassock, saying, "This dress is a Buddhist costume, so it is a godsend to monks, monks and me. I will give it to you so that I can protect myself and find a good mountain to live in." He returned to Tiangushan "doing nothing but being busy"

The bourgeoisie respected this foreign monk very much and asked him to live in the city many times, but he refused to go to the city. But on the edge of the city outside the west gate, he walked through the tombs and Woods at night, and the believers built an exquisite Buddhist temple for him to live in. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Zhang Qiu and Joan Ren Jiannan served our time, learned of his virtue, and invited him to Chengdu to demonstrate Zen. From the sixteenth year of Kaiyuan to the first year of Tianbao, Wuxiang lived in Zizi for fourteen years.

Shortly after Wuxiang arrived in Chengdu, an unidentified man suddenly came and asked to go to his residence to cut wood for the kitchen. Wuxiang agreed to let him live. That year, Wuxiang's younger brother inherited the throne of Jin Xingguang and became the new Silla king. Afraid that his younger brother would return to China and endanger the throne, he sent an assassin to sneak into Chengdu to assassinate him. I know nothing about the news, but I don't care. One night, the big woodcutter walked around the faceless room and said, "There are guests tonight." Wuxiang said, "I feel the same way." The big fellow said, "I can never let him hurt the Buddha!" " "He took a sharp knife, put the mat on the meditation bed and took strict precautions. In the middle of the night, a man jumped out of the courtyard wall, and the woodcutter rushed to meet him. With a knife in his hand, he chopped the assassin to the ground, then dragged the body to a huge pit at the back door, buried it with soil, and left. At dawn, Wuxiang sent someone to see the woodcutter to thank him for saving his life, but he disappeared and never came again. This is a mysterious figure. Who is he? South Korea or China? Why did you come to save Wuxiang? No one knows, but it can be inferred that the country has been hiding in the barren hills of the capital for more than ten years. It is not simply seeking teachers to visit Taoism to practice Zen and learn Buddhism, but has its own subtle and complicated political reasons.

In the 15th year of Tianbao (755), "An Shi Rebellion" broke out, and Emperor Xuanzong of Tang took refuge in Shu and arrived in Chengdu in August of that year. Knowing that monk Jin was here, he regarded him as an old friend, so he was welcomed into the Inner Temple to provide for him, given him a thousand acres of land, and asked him to plan and build Daci Temple. In November of the second year of Zhide (757), Emperor Xuanzong left Chengdu and returned to Chang 'an. Before he left, Yu Bi personally wrote the words "Dasheng Temple". Prior to this, Master Wuxiang built Jingzhong Temple, Bordet Base and Ning successively in Chengdu with the help of YIO, a magistrate of a county in Chengdu. Wuxiang has been popularizing law for 20 years with Jingzhong Temple as the center. His Zen method is based on "no memory, no thought and no ignorance". Every year, in the first month and December, a ceremony of "mandating life" is held, in which thousands of monks and nuns participate, and "Zen is all over Yizhou". China has been divided into "epiphany school" headed by Huineng and "gradual enlightenment school" headed by Shen Xiu since the five ancestors of Zen forbeared, which is called "the south can show, and the north can show". The Five Elephants inherited and developed the wisdom theory, and lived in Jingzhong Temple for a long time, forming Zhong Jing Zen. This Buddhist disciple has no place to live, and he summed up the theories of Jian Nan and Zhong Jing Zen Buddhism. Because he lived in Tang Bao Temple, he was collectively called Tang Bao Zen and became the most influential sect in the Tang Dynasty. In Buddhism, the so-called "those who say Shu must know Zen, especially those who say Zen must know Shu" refers to the far-reaching protection of Tang Zen, which comes down in one continuous line for four generations: wisdom, silence, ignorance and no cover.

In May of the first year of Baoying (762), Master Wuxiang meditated in Chengdu Daci Temple at the age of 79. In 760, three years before his death, Han Xun, the secretariat of Zizhou, wrote an article for him and built a monument for him. Li Shangyin, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty, took Yizhou Five Elephants Master, Tang Baowu Master, Hongzhou Yidao Master and Xitang Zhizang Master as the "four certificates" in Preface to Four Certificates of Yi Hui South Temple in Tangzi Prefecture, and pushed the five elephants as the first certificate. Dechun Temple, where the Five Elephant Zen Master practiced dharma in Zizhou, was founded in 200 years in the fifth year of Jian 'an in the Western Han Dynasty and renamed Ning in the Song Dynasty. Now there is a temple in the original building, which was rebuilt in the seventh year of Tianshun in Ming Dynasty (1463). After he left Zizhong, Zizhong people created the Ten Bodhisattvas and the Earth King in memory of him. There are 97 shrines, and 10 1 1 Buddha statues are carved on the cliffs.

Five-spice Zen master has a great influence among the people in Zizhong, and there are many legends of "Golden Monk" among some old people with cigarette sticks. Those old people are not well educated. If you ask where Dechun Temple is, they are at a loss. They only know Ning Guo Si. If you ask Zen master Qi Zhi, Zen master Chu Ji and Zen master Wu Xiang, they still don't know anything, but if you ask the "Golden Monk", they will tell you that the Golden Monk is a strange man, and he has a treasure coat (that is, the kapok cassock that Wu Zetian gave to Zen master Qi Zhi in "Tales of Magical Warriors of Past Dynasties"). How can this "Baoyi" be hidden in a building in front of the temple? When Duan Wang arrived in Zizhou, he sent troops to open the stone pagoda and wanted to take Baoyi away. Baoyi turned into a python and flew away.

There is a paddy field not far from Ning. Once, a monk named Jin passed by and dropped a scripture on the ground. The scripture became a piece of gold, and people rushed to the underground fields to pick it up. But gold is visible, but it's like fishing for the moon in water. No one got it, but the field became a treasure trove of feng shui. Every year, drought and flood ensure the harvest, and the output is more than half that of other rice fields, and all the millet produced is taken out. Later, the owner of that field was insatiable and wanted to spread the "aura" to another field, so he dug up the ridge and merged the two fields into one field. As a result, the "gas field" was destroyed, but people still called the land "gold mining field" or "stepping on the field"

There is also a legend about Wuxiang. The little chef of hippo has a kind of kimchi called tender winter tip, which is especially tender and smooth, fragrant and delicious. Even the famous Fuling mustard tuber is made by imitating the pickling method of Dongjian (this is not a legend, but a fact), and the brewing method of Dongjian was handed down by an old monk in Ning, and the monks all said that this secret method was handed down by the golden monk. As we all know, Korea is the kingdom of kimchi, but we don't know when kimchi originated. If it existed in the Tang Dynasty, then this folklore in Zizhong is credible, which strongly proves that as early as more than 1000 years ago, the people of China and North Korea had cultural exchanges and precious friendship!
