Is Hunan suitable for planting sandalwood trees?

Sandalwood, also known as sandalwood. Native to India, Indonesia, Australia and Africa, and also introduced and cultivated in Taiwan Province Province and Guangdong Province. Wood is very fragrant, and it is often used as a material for high-grade utensils, carvings and so on. Sandalwood is a tropical and tropical plant in South Asia. The most suitable growth temperature is 23℃ ~ 35℃, and the rainfall is 600 ~ 1600 mm. When the temperature is lower than 13℃, the growth of sandalwood temporarily stops and the terminal buds turn into dormancy. According to the observation records of each test site, sandalwood can endure the short-term low temperature below zero without frost, but when the temperature drops below zero, the branches and leaves directly frost, that is, freezing damage will occur, and the longer the low temperature lasts, the more serious the freezing damage will be.

It can be planted in Hunan, and sandalwood is suitable for growing in tropical rain forest climate. In China, except Hainan can barely adapt, no other areas can. Sandalwood is a semi-parasitic plant.

It takes time for this tree to become useful. Shade after cultivation, and the soil around the plants should always be loose and moist. Cultivation 1 ~ 2 years, should be shallow and loose, and should not be dug deeply. Fertilize 2 ~ 3 times a year, mainly with human and animal feces. Sandalwood and host plants should be replanted in time if they are missing, and parasitic plants should be pruned to promote trunk growth.

According to the introduction of the test site, sandalwood can also grow well on the mountain at an altitude of 1800 meters. In the suitable climate zone, the growth of forest trees is still restricted by the site conditions of forest land to some extent. Because of the difference of microclimate, soil and topography, the afforestation effect of sandalwood will be very different. In order to obtain good economic benefits, the afforestation topography, lighting conditions and soil conditions must be comprehensively understood and selected according to the biological characteristics of sandalwood before afforestation. Different topography causes different microenvironment, which affects the growth of sandalwood by influencing other ecological factors. Therefore, terrain should be the first consideration when choosing sandalwood afforestation site.
