Protection methods and precautions of Gerbera jamesonii
Gerbera jamesonii is a perennial herb, which likes the environment with sufficient light and has strong reproductive ability. When potted, pay attention to the following points.
1, slightly acidic soil
Gerbera jamesonii likes loose, breathable and fertile slightly acidic soil. When potted, 1 peat soil, 1 humus soil and 1 perlite are recommended for planting. Avoid clay, stagnant water will cause gerbera to wither. When choosing a flowerpot, Lan Yao suggested that you choose a flowerpot with many drainage holes, which is breathable, and Gerbera jamesonii is not easy to accumulate water and block its roots after watering.
2. Adequate lighting
Gerbera jamesonii likes sunny environment, so indoor maintenance in winter should be placed in Nanyang Terrace to allow it to receive sufficient sunshine. It is best to receive full sunshine in spring, autumn and winter, and shade properly in summer. When the light is insufficient, Gerbera jamesonii will grow thin and bloom less.
3. Comfortable temperature
Gerbera jamesonii is a semi-cold-tolerant flower, which is sensitive to temperature, neither high nor cold, and the suitable growth temperature is directly at 20-25 degrees. Can withstand a short-term low temperature of 0 degrees. Generally, it is recommended to keep the temperature above 10 degrees in winter, so that Gerbera jamesonii can continue to grow and bloom. If the temperature is lower than 5 degrees in winter and higher than 35 degrees in summer, gerbera will stagnate.
4. Water and fertilize
Gerbera jamesonii has many leaves, and the leaves are relatively large, and the evaporation of water is large. Gerbera jamesonii should pay attention to maintaining sufficient fertilizer and water during the growth period. Water thoroughly to avoid root rot caused by excessive watering. Before each watering, you can lift the flowerpot to feel the weight. You can water it lightly. If it is still heavy, you need to wait.
It is suggested to reserve 10 day for fertilizer and water topdressing during the growth period, use water-soluble fertilizers such as Huaduoduo 1 before bud appearance, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer after bud appearance to promote bud growth.
It should be noted here that topdressing should be stopped in hot summer, and if the temperature in winter is lower than 10 degrees, topdressing of water-soluble fertilizer should also be stopped, and a little slow-release fertilizer can be applied, because Gerbera jamesonii grows slowly when the temperature is low, so slow-release fertilizer or fermented organic fertilizer can be applied.
5, pruning and breeding
Some metabolic yellow leaves may appear during the growth of Gerbera jamesonii, which should be pruned and removed in time. The single flowering period of Gerbera jamesonii is about 15 days. When flowering fails, the residual flowers should be trimmed in time, otherwise they may bear seeds and consume nutrients.
Gerbera jamesonii can be propagated by seeds or ramets. In our family, the method of dividing plants is generally adopted. Gerbera jamesonii will grow a new seedling from the root every time it blooms, so after a period of cultivation, it will split into many seedlings and can be transplanted separately. However, Lan Yao personally suggested that Gerbera jamesonii should not be divided when there are not many seedlings. The more seedlings there are in a pot, the more flowers there are, and it is easier to explode.
