First, don’t expose it to the sun. The stone turtle is a water turtle and is not as drought-tolerant as land turtles. Although they also need sunlight, because the ultraviolet rays in sunlight help synthesize vitamin D and absorb calcium from the bones, and can also kill bacteria. Moreover, sunlight can also increase the body temperature of turtles, promote metabolism, and help digest food. But needing sunlight does not mean being able to be exposed. Some people thought it was time to give the turtles some sunshine, so they basked them in the sun. In fact, the best way is to breed turtles in a place that has both shade and direct sunlight, so that the turtles can choose freely. Whether it needs sunlight or not, turtles will naturally search for it without human intervention.
Second, don’t overfeed. When you feed stone gold turtles, some of them seem to never get enough. That's because these turtles still retain their primitive instincts, that is, food is not always available when they live in the wild, so their instinct is to devour food as much as they can if they see it. But doing this for a long time will definitely damage the turtle’s digestive system. So please don’t overfeed, and if possible, eat smaller meals more often is a good choice.
Third, don’t change the water too often. It seems that this statement is contrary to the previous argument of keeping the turtle pond clean. Although changing the water too frequently can keep the water clean, it will frighten or disturb the turtle because of frequent water changes. Moreover, most of the current breeding places use tap water, so various chemicals in the tap water will also cause irritation to the turtles. This is especially noteworthy for breeding stone turtle seedlings.
Fourth, do not choose a turtle pond that is too transparent. Many people may not breed many stone turtles, so they choose to use glass tanks to breed stone turtles. In fact, a glass tank is not a good choice. Although it is easy to observe, it is difficult to let stone turtles understand that glass is a transparent material. Therefore, stone turtles in glass tanks can easily rub against the tank. It is best to provide a hiding place for the turtle. The animal's instinct is to think that a place where they can't see it is safe. Even if you want to breed stone turtles in a glass tank, it is best to plant some aquatic plants or set up some large wooden rockeries in the tank.
