History of Huayan Temple in Baicheng

Huayan Temple in Baicheng, an ancient temple with a long history, was originally located in Baicheng Minsheng College. Built in the early years of the Republic of China, it belongs to a Buddhist temple in the Han Dynasty.

The original temple is exquisite in structure, magnificent in momentum, solemn and majestic, full of incense, and has the reputation of being an educator.

It was destroyed and razed to the ground during the Cultural Revolution, leaving nothing behind.

Since 1994, believers have called for the reconstruction of Huayan Temple, but it has not been approved for various reasons.

1998, with the attention and efforts of the city, the relevant departments officially approved the reconstruction of Huayan Temple.

The newly-built Huayan Temple is located in the southeast suburb of Baicheng City, at the entrance of Changbai Highway, and it is very spectacular with the memorial tower for the victory of flood fighting and the forest park.

Huayan Temple covers an area of 20,000 square meters with a building area of 4,000 square meters.

Its planning and design is to imitate the famous temple system in Chinese mainland. Belonging to the building facing south meridian, the left and right sides are called supporting buildings.

Form a classical building with reasonable layout, complete openings, reasonable halls, huge scale and palace style.

The main buildings of the temple are: Mountain Gate, Tianwang Hall, Ursa Major Hall, Bell and Drum Tower, Guanyin Hall, Tibetan Hall, Zhaitang Hall and Guest Hall.

Among them, Daxiong Hall is the most spectacular, with a construction area of 700 square meters. During the Dharma, thousands of people can participate in Buddhist activities.

The main hall is a double-story mountain-style building with double eaves and arches, yellow tiles and gray walls, painted by the court. Magnificent momentum, with the architectural characteristics and artistic style of Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Three giant buddhas, namely Sakyamuni, Amitabha and Pharmacist Buddha, are enshrined in the temple, which is nearly 6 meters high. This statue inherits China's traditional sculpture art and exquisite techniques, with a full moon face and kind eyes, which is extraordinary and admirable.

The eighteen arhats on both sides of the giant Buddha are lifelike and have both form and spirit.

The reconstruction of Huayan Temple not only meets the needs of the first son of Buddhism in Baicheng, but also radiates the Buddhism of believers in Wulanhaote, Inner Mongolia and Jiagedaqi, Heilongjiang.

Huayan Temple, with its long history, magnificent architecture and lofty reputation, not only attracts countless good men and women, but also adds a beautiful cultural landscape to Horqin grassland.
