There are two carp streams in Ningde city, northeast Fujian. One is Liyuxi in Puyuan, zhouning county, which is famous for 800 years, and the other is Liyuxi in Zherong County.
According to folklore, more than 800 years ago, an official surnamed Zheng in Beijing was killed and took his family to Zhouning Puyuan. It was dark, and the officers and men chased after it. The whole family had no choice but to leave. There is only one covered bridge ahead. There was a statue of Guanyin on the shrine at one end of the covered bridge, so the whole family had to ask for help. It's really an infinite dharma. The officers and men who caught up only ran to both sides of the stream, and no one entered the covered bridge. After the officers and men left, the whole family didn't run again. Zheng, who was killed, dreamed that a carp jumped from the stream and turned into a Guanyin statue, and told him not to run any more. This puyuan is the final resting place of his family.
Amitabha, an official surnamed Zheng listened to carp and settled in Puyuan. In order to repay the carp for saving his life, the official surnamed Zheng ordered his people to protect the carp in Puyuan River from now on, and no one could kill it. From then on, if the carp in the stream died of illness, the descendants of the Zheng family took the dead fish out of the stream and buried it. This custom has continued to this day. After more than 800 years of reproduction, carp has a special relationship with human beings.
In Zherong County, adjacent to zhouning county, in order to build a beautiful mountain city, the county government released tens of thousands of carp when rebuilding the moat. A notice was also issued prohibiting people from killing carp in the moat. But the government's notice has no effect. There are still many disobedient people. Carps in the river are not as lucky as those in Liyuxi of Zhouning Puyuan, and often become a delicacy on people's tables. Government officials don't understand that I am doing good for the people, but why don't I obey the law? Later, according to folklore, I don't know who suggested to government officials to invite monks and Taoists to recite scriptures, and then the whole city announced that the carp in this moat could not be eaten. After listening to this suggestion, government officials invited monks and Taoists to recite scriptures, and the people also came to watch. Sure enough, it worked. Since then, no one dares to kill carp in this moat.
Now, there are many tourists in Liyuxi of Zhouning Puyuan, and the carp in the moat of Zherong County is naturally delicious.
