Jiangwei Baguawei

What is Bagua? Bagua is the distribution of directions. Tai Chi generates two phenomena (the two phenomena are yin and yang, which can also be said to be day and night), the two phenomena generate the four images (the image of the blue dragon in the east, the white tiger in the west, the basalt image in the north, and the red bird in the south), and the four images create Bagua: Qian Gua (Northwest), Kan Gua (North), Gen Gua (Northeast), Zhen Gua (East), Xun Gua (Southeast), Li Gua (South), Kun Gua (Southwest), and Dui Gua (West). One hexagram governs three mountains, and eight trigrams cover twenty-four mountains.

This Bagua Wai is built based on the Bagua, with Kun facing Gen, that is, southwest to northeast. The main entrance is Gen Gate, with a Yin Gate on the side, a Xun Gate on the right (facing southeast), and a Qian Gate (facing northwest) on the left. Qian, Kun, Gen, and Xun are the four pillars of the Bagua. Qian is the heavenly father, Kun is the earth mother, Gen is the young boy, and Xun is the eldest daughter. Baguawei has 89 streets and alleys, all of which are paved with cobblestones. It has 1,653 rooms and covers an area of ??23,000 square meters. The rooms in Baguawei have one obvious feature compared to ordinary houses, that is, almost none of the rooms is square. Why? Because of the Bagua design, each string of enclosures is in the shape of a folding fan. If this design is not followed, the Bagua will not be formed. Walking into Baguawei, the streets are crisscrossed and the houses are similar. It's like entering Zhuge Liang's Bagua array, which is confusing and confusing. It is difficult for ordinary people to find a way out. It is said that two families in Waizhong once married their wives on the same day. Ah Jia took Ah Yi's bride into Ah Jia's house. The bride and her family could not tell the difference for a while. It took a long time to realize that they had entered the wrong door. After asking questions, they were transferred to Ah Jia's house. The Yi family has become a joke.

Baguawei was built in the first year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1488 AD) and has a history of more than 500 years.

There is an interesting legend about the founding of Baguawei. Wen Yilang, the founder of the Bagua surname, migrated from Shanghang, Fujian and settled here. Because his wife and concubine were not getting along, he built another threesome under the pier of Guimaoling. Living in a hut. This concubine (called "Xiaopo" by the locals) is the grandmother of the Baguawei villagers. Grandma filled a large tank of water in the evening. When she woke up in the morning, all the water was gone. This situation lasted for several days. At that time, the young woman suspected that the older woman had bullied her and deliberately scooped the water away to make things difficult for her, so she told her husband, My husband also felt strange. At night, I stayed with my concubine to spy on him secretly. At the third watch, I saw a white horse and a yellow horse stretching their heads out to drink water in the vat. The two chased them with sticks. The two horses ran under the grass pier and disappeared. The couple dug into the ground with hoes and dug out a vat of silver and a vat of gold. When you have money, ask a Feng Shui master to help you plan and build a house. Mr. Feng Shui observed that this place should be home to Qianjiading. When designing the house plan, he did not follow the Hakka tradition of building four-corner buildings or two-corner enclosures, but designed Bagua enclosures. He also told Zhang's ancestors that if the population continued to increase in the future, they would add layers of Bagua buildings according to the Eight Diagrams. The string is expanded and extended outward. To this day, there is still an open space of 200 to 300 square meters behind the enclosure, and there is still a small grass mound in the middle of the open space. This is the place where the yellow and white horses had no land and dug out gold and silver.

The population of the people surnamed Zhang in Baguawei developed rapidly. By the middle and late Qing Dynasty, there were four to five thousand people living in the area. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were 8 production teams in the area. Due to the increasing population, cramped living conditions, and dilapidated houses, residents have gradually built new homes. Currently, there are only more than 40 households left in the area. There are currently more than 3,000 people in this tribe, and more than 12,000 people have moved from Baguawei to various parts of the county, including tens of thousands of people who have moved to Guangxi and other places.

On the second day of May in the ninth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty (1859), Baguawei suffered a catastrophe. A peasant uprising army of tens of thousands in Huizhou, headed by Zhai Huogu, passed through this area. As the soldiers were looting, the villagers shot more than ten officers and soldiers with blunderbuss. The uprising army was furious and launched a siege of Baguawei, killing 312 villagers and bloody It flows into a river and is terrible to watch.

In the 1990s, the Wengyuan County Government listed Baguawei as a key cultural relic protection unit in the county. Baguawei has great research value in terms of history, architectural graphics, residential feng shui, etc., and is worthy of people's study.
