Damiaofan is one of the three main market towns in Tanjiahe Township, Shihe District. The street is close to the main source of Nanwan Reservoir. It is built on the Feisha River. On the high base in the southwest of Damiaofan Street, there was a large temple built in ancient times, but its original construction was not verified. The location of the street is commonly known as "Fanshang" in the local area. This is probably the origin of "Damiao Fan", which means that there is a big temple on Fanshang, and the street was built next to the temple.

In the old days, Damiaofan was a resting place for the ancient post horses and a place for local people to go to market and trade, so it also showed a prosperous scene at that time. There was an iron factory in the town, and the iron pots it produced were famous far and wide at that time. The iron pots were picked up by porters and sold in Xinyang and other places. There are also blacksmith shops, bamboo crafts shops, cloth shops, tailor shops, rice mills, oil mills, mule and horse markets, etc. on the streets. After all the changes, the main roads are now far away from Damiaofan, but what is confusing is that Damiaofan Street is still called "big". It turns out that Damiaofan Street is composed of six natural villages, and most of the villagers in the six villages live in Damiaofan. The gathering on Miaofan Street gradually formed its current scale. Not only that, several villages were also on this street. In the early 1990s, Damiaofan was once called the "Little Hong Kong" of the original Xinyang County. Because it is located in a deep mountain with many trees and deep forests, it is rich in agricultural products such as mushrooms, fungus, and gastrodia elata. In the early 1990s, The annual trade volume once reached tens of millions of yuan, and merchants from as far away as Guangdong, Fujian, Wuhan, Shanghai and other places came in an endless stream all year round. The agricultural and sideline products produced were sold all over the country, and it was famous far and near.

Damiaofan has a history of scouring iron sand and making iron since ancient times. The awarder of this medal was the original "Damiofan Iron Works", located in Damiaofanpaifanggang. , facing Hubei Yingshan across the boundary river. The predecessor of the "Damiofan Iron Factory" was the "Xinhua Pot Factory" run by Jin Dengwu, the landowner before the founding of the People's Republic of China, and his eldest son Jin Renshan. They made a living by scouring iron sand and smelting iron to cast pots. Their products were sold to various places and made huge profits. Very wealthy households. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the county government confiscated the Jinjia Pot Factory and purchased the pot factory of handicraftsman Li Shaoxuan. In 1951, it was changed to the collective enterprise "Yongsheng Pot Factory" and in 1954 to the "Local State-owned Damiao Fan Iron Pot Factory". factory". In 1958, during the "Big Steel Making" movement, the "Damiofan Iron Pot Factory" became the "Damiofan Iron and Steel Factory". By 1963, Hubei built a large reservoir in the upper reaches of the Boundary River. The flow of the river became smaller, the river sand was stagnant, and the source of iron sand was exhausted. In addition, it was located in a mountainous area and the transportation was inconvenient, which led to a backlog of products and difficulty in turnover. In July of the same year, it was forced to Production ceased and moved to Minggang. In August 1965, the mine was moved to Zhangjiachong, Pingqiao Town, to mine serpentine, and was renamed "Xinyang County Zhangjiachong Serpentine Mine", completely ending the history of iron sand mining and ironmaking in Damiaofan.

On the Xishan Mountain not far from Damiaofan Street, there were two temples built in ancient times, namely the Luozhong Temple and the Huoshao Temple, which have long since been abandoned. Because the ruins of Luozhong Temple and Huoshao Temple are both located on the West Mountain, and the ruins of Huoshao Temple are difficult to find, many travelers mistakenly confuse the two temples together. According to the "Reconstruction of Xinyang County Chronicles" compiled in the 25th year of the Republic of China, "The Luozhong Temple is located on the west mountain of Damiaofan Town. It is said that the bell of a temple in De'an Prefecture flew to the ground because of the construction of the temple."; "The Burning Temple" , on Mount Fanxi of the Great Temple. It is said that the monks were illegal and the temple was burned down by officials. Therefore, the temple has been completely destroyed, but the wooden planks and stone slabs of the ground floor are still there." From this record, we can clearly see that the two temples have a clear connection and are not affiliated with each other.

The more interesting story is the "Huoshao Temple". In various local chronicles and folklore, the "Huoshao Temple" is vague and unclear, which makes people confused. I wonder what dynasty it was in and what laws were committed by "burning temple monks"? What was the original name of the temple before it was burned? ......

I have seen the entry of "Fire Burning Temple" in the county annals before, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I just had a superficial impression.

One day out of nowhere, I vaguely felt that a certain paragraph in an ancient book I had read was about "Burning the Temple on Fire"? ! I couldn't remember the title of the book, so I had to rummage through the box and go to great lengths to read the book based on my impressions. Dedication always brings surprises, and I finally found it in the book "Bean Shed Gossip" written by Qing Ren. Yes, that's it!

The real name and life story of the author of "Doupeng Gossip" are unknown. From his works, it is known that he was born in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. There is a passage in "The Gossip in the Doupo" and Chapter 6: "The Great Monk Pretends to Become a Super High", which details the origin of the "Burning Temple". At the beginning of this paragraph, it is written, "But there is a piece of gossip, but it is true." It can be seen that the story of "Burning Temple" is real and not fictitious. It turns out that the original name of "Huoshao Temple" was "Puming Temple". From the text, "Then he removed the net,...and then cut off his hair at the level of his eyebrows." We also know that the story took place in the Ming Dynasty (the net scarf was a net used by adult men in the Ming Dynasty to tie their hair. It is also one of the most symbolic turbans in the crown clothing system established in the early Ming Dynasty). As for what kind of crimes were committed by "burning the temple monks", the article describes that this group of thieves and monks sought wealth and killed people, kidnapped wives and daughters, exhumed corpses and defrauded people of money. This was a heinous crime! I am attaching the original text of this paragraph. I wonder if it can be used as an addendum to the local chronicles of Da Xinyang?

But there is another piece of gossip that is true. This saying comes from the place where Yingshan County, De'an Prefecture, Huguang, and Xinyang Prefecture, Henan Province meet, which is called Henthis Pass (now Pingjing Pass). It is a steep and high mountain, surrounded by lush trees. Although it is an important road, there are only a few pedestrians passing by. There is an ancient temple on the hill, which is also an incense from the Tang and Song Dynasties. It is called Puming Temple in the chronicles. There are only twenty or thirty monks in the temple. They are all Rakshasa people who eat meat and drink wine. I don’t know that in the past fifteen or six years, more than ten elders have been seated. It is said that the feng shui in the temple was originally a holy place, so the Zen Master Buddha appeared frequently and donated alms everywhere year after year. Unexpectedly one day, a medicine collector came there to seek shelter. The monk refused to die, so the doctor had to take advantage of the moon. After walking for ten or twenty miles, I forgot a hoe and placed it in the stone tablet pavilion outside the mountain gate. I suddenly thought that someone might take it away, so I had to turn around and go to the stele pavilion to look for the hoe. Only one person in the wall could be heard complaining and shouting: 'Masters, please let me live for a few more days, and then I can take my seat! ’ The doctor felt something was strange. He climbed up the wall and took a closer look at the tree. He saw the light coming from the front of the hall, and found a few bald men binding an old monk upright and carrying him to a seat. He couldn’t understand. The old monk screamed several times like a pig but then stopped. The doctor stayed there all night and saw very little movement the next day. At dawn, all the bells and drums in the Buddhist hall could be heard were ringing together, and the Buddha's name was shaking the sky. The Taoist came out and said, "Zen Master Lingming passed away last night." ’ Zhaitie was divided on all sides, and many Buddha heads came and were about to be opened for great rituals. The doctor went in and took a closer look, only to see a sad face, with a complexion as yellow as a vegetable leaf and no blood at all. The doctor took advantage of the gap and touched his hand under the seat. He saw that his hand was full of blood, but there was a root growing in the valley. The doctor immediately went to Xinyang Prefecture and reported this episode one by one.

Na Zhizhou had a dream one night and saw an old monk covered in blood and crying out in pain. Zhizhou was saved, so he even rode a fast horse and led local soldiers to surround the temple. Go inside and ask the abbot to come out and meet him. The abbot, who was a great monk, refused to come out, and was only greeted by the head of the household. The state official asked, "Yesterday, another Zen master was enthroned. He came here to pay homage, so we built a pagoda with him." ’ The master also kowtowed in thanks. The state official said: ‘How many monks are there in the temple? Every time you pass, you have to give some money. ’ Those few people who were like wolves and tigers all came out with their heads lowered and their hands lowered, listening to the state official’s name being called. Each monk asked the village soldiers to guard him. At the same time, he asked his subordinates to invite the monk to sit up and see what his hands and feet were like. Two country soldiers stepped forward and could not move it. They lifted it with force and a two-foot-long iron nail in the valley fell immediately. There was a bucket of blood condensed in the vat below.

Many monks tied them up one by one and took them to the state. They also dismantled the monks’ cells layer by layer and entered them. However, more than a dozen women ran out and shouted loudly. Zhizhou called Zaoli to pass them one by one and asked, "How long have you and your women been here?" ’ The women all said together: ‘Some range from three to five years, some this year.

These are the monks who consort with bachelors and pretend to be merchants. They don't care about money, they just want to get married and live together as husband and wife at home. Nazhi gradually deceived him into his hometown, and suddenly one day he took him directly to this place under the name of visiting relatives. He hid it in a deep room with multiple walls and never saw the light of day. There was also a family in a nearby village whose daughter, who was more than ten years old, was playing outside. When no one saw her, she took her and hid her in her. She kept her there until she was twelve or thirteen years old. ’ The state official asked: ‘How come no one has come forward to report to the state or county in these many years? ’ The woman said: ‘The Taoists used by my subordinates are all murderers and thieves in the past. Every day, everyone has his own way, and the money he cheated is divided equally, and the neighboring villages also sell some favors, so no one inside or outside is against him. If one person among them said something naughty, everyone would immediately leave. So until now, everyone is united and has never noticed it. ’ The state official asked, ‘How come so many people have died over the years? ’ The woman called out, ‘They are all single guests from the past. They trapped him inside and did not allow him to escape. He first ate the sweat medicine with him, then removed the net, tied him up and exposed him in the sun. His forehead and face were darkened, and then he cut off his hair to the level of his eyebrows and pretended to be a Toutuo appearance. Or tie the body up and down to sit in lotus position. After being hungry for three to five days, his skull was all soft. He filled his clothes with sulfur and saltpeter and placed them on the niche of the firewood tower. The rumors spread about the former Buddha-headed Buddha chief in Jiuhuang, and people came to watch from everywhere. They saved money to make offerings and build pagodas to read scriptures. I don't know how many people were deceived, but they were still divided and used as usual. After spending all the money, we have to do this living Buddha business. ’ While the state officials were making inquiries, Menzi reported: ‘Many more women’s foot bones were excavated from the bamboo circle. ’ The state official asked, ‘Why are they all women’s foot bones? ’ A woman said humanely, ‘When a man dies, his bones are useless. Only the newly dead woman, whose legs were still full of blood, cut them into pieces with a saw, and used water grinding to make them into ivory chopsticks. No one recognized them, and they made a huge profit. The Taoist monks in the temple had no place to distribute money, so they often inquired about newly deceased women and stole them for this purpose. The leg bones were used, so all that remained were the foot bones. ’ The state official found out that he was cruel and cruel. Each monk was beaten fifty times, and a nail was added to his heart, which made him die immediately. I am going to tell my superiors about the circumstances and they will eliminate them one by one and burn the Puming Temple in one go, which will eliminate great harm. This is also the story of the great monk recently.
