Looking for the Shilong Zuo Family (Part 2) in "The Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family" - Supplementary Notes
1. Zuojiawan in Shishan Village, Hengdong County is Shilong Zuojia
At 10:37 on August 19, 2015, I took the high-speed rail to Hengyang East Station for the fourth time, then transferred to a taxi and arrived at the 100-kilometer mark at 13:40. At Zuo Guoguang's house in Zuojiawan, Yangqiao County, Hengdong County, this enthusiastic family member heard that I was going to Zuojiawan again to make up for the missing pages in the eighth volume of "The Twelve Revisions of the Zuo Family Genealogy" ( Pages 49 to 60) have been waiting for me at home.
This time when I went to Zuojiawan in Hengdong, I also had another important task, which was to follow the "Picture of Shilong Ancestral Temple" on page 1 of the eleventh volume of "The Twelve Revisions of the Zuo Family Genealogy". As well as the yin and yang diagrams on pages 98, 99, 101, 104, 105, 106, and 108, let the four groups of Zuojiawan and Shimen Village in Shishan Village compare the diagrams to establish the "Shilong" The exact location of "Zuo Family" (there is Shilong Village in Shimen, Hengshan, where the Zuo clan was founded, bordering Fenghuang Mountain, Yuxiu Zhongling...).
Later, Zuo Guoguang took me to the home of his brother, Mr. Zuo Ligen. When the local Zuo clan heard about my arrival, they all enthusiastically gathered around and invited me to sit down and drink tea. Among these people were: 69-year-old Zuo Genyao and his wife Liu Kaiying; Zuo Guoguang and his wife; Zuo Ligen and his wife; Zuo Jieyuan from the Zuo family of Group 4 in Shimen Village, 5 kilometers away, also rushed over; and there was another person whose name I don’t know. My surname is Zuo, and he introduced himself as the younger brother of Mr. Zuo Guansheng of Zuojiawan.
Compare the "Shilong Ancestral Temple Picture" and the Yin and Yang Picture in "The Twelve Revisions of the Zuo Family Genealogy" and ask the Zuo clan members present to confirm where the "Ishilong Zuo Family" is? Several Zuo family members present quickly answered in unison: The Shilong Ancestral Temple site is at the foot of the Zhuzhang River small reservoir (on the other side) in front of the door. The name of the mountain and place in the Yin-Yang Diagram, such as "Shilong Chong" ", "Gaogongling", and "Shilong Ancestral Temple" are all on our territory in Zuojiawan, Shishan Village...
At this point, I am probably sure: Zuojiawan in Shishan Village, Hengdong County, is the "Shilong Zuojia" I am looking for - "There is Shilong Village in Shimen, Hengshan, where the Zuo family founded its clan."
2. The Origin of the Shilong Zuo Clan
According to the second part of Volume 2 of the "Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family", "The Origin and Origin of the Shilongyan Sect in Hengshan", the Zuo surname originated in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. During this period, the descendants of the Duke of Qi (Gongzi Zuo) moved to Danyang'er Mausoleum in Jiangsu Province. Among their ancestors were Zuo Si, Zuo Hui, Zuo Sixian and others. During the Southern Tang Dynasty, Zuo Ye, the grandson of Zuo Sixian, lived in Sima, Hengzhou, with full rank, and lived in Fengqiao, Yongxin, Jiangxi. He was the ancestor of the Zuo family of this branch.
From the Yuan Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty (1264-1294), Zuo Miaolong, the son of Zuo Gonggui, a descendant of Ye Gong, first moved to Hengshan from Fengqiao, and then moved to Youyi. The place was named Shiqiaopu, and he gave birth to a son. Named Daoyi, Daoyi has three sons: good inscriptions, good lessons, and good Quan.
Shanquan moved to Malong Prefecture, Qujing Prefecture, Yunnan Province. His descendant was Yin Sheng, an unnamed official.
The descendants of Shanminggong lived in Zuojiachong and Luanshan in Youyi for many generations. His descendants, Zhi Yinfan, are difficult to describe in detail.
Shanjian gave birth to three sons: Yunlu, Yunshou and Yunnian. Some of the descendants of Yunnian moved to Songjiaotang in the original city (referring to Hengshan County), and also moved from Songjiaotang to Niuchongjiepai, Anren. Yunlu Gong of our sect had six sons, and the sixth son was Zuo Liding. Zuo Liding had two sons. The eldest son Zuo Derong moved from Shiqiaopu, Youyi to Hengshan during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1465-1487). The place called Shilongchong was the founder of Shilong.
According to the above, it can be known that Daoyigong is the ancestor of the following Zuo families:
1. The Zuo family of Shiqiaopu, You County;
2. Zuojia, Luanshan, You County;
3. Zuojiawan, Shishan Village, Hengdong County;
4. Zuojia, Group Four, Shimen Village, Hengdong County.
3. Searching for the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu, You County (Part 1)
——Zuo Jiachong of the Houbeiling Formation, Xinlian Village, Xinshi Town
Where is the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu, You County, mentioned repeatedly in "The Twelve Revisions of the Genealogy of the Zuo Family"?
According to the map study in Volume 2 of the "Tongzhi Edition of You County Chronicle" and the complete map of the county, the same place in the northern part of the county slightly eastward is marked with the two place names of Shiqiaopu and Xinshi. The note in Volume 11 is "Fifty miles from Xinshi and Shiqiaopu to the county." In other words, Shiqiaopu and Xinshi are located in the same place, 50 miles away from the county seat.
At 16:00 on August 19, 2015, we left Zuojiawan, Shishan Village, Yangqiao Town, Hengdong County, took a shortcut, passed Zuojia, Shimen Village, and headed for Xinshi Town, You County. Go find the exact location of Zuojia in Shiqiaopu.
The car navigation shows that the distance from Zuojiawan in Shishan Village to Xinshi Town in You County is about 40 kilometers. After entering Xinshi Town, You County, I asked about the Zuo family in Xinshi while walking, but they all replied that they did not know that there was a Zuo family village in Xinshi. After arriving in Xinshi Township, someone said that there was a Zuo family in Xinlian Village in the south of the township.
Go south for about 2 kilometers from Xinshi Town, leave the avenue, go west (right) onto the village road, and then go north for about 2 kilometers, which is Zuojia, Xinlian Village, Xinshi Town . Is this the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu mentioned in "The Twelve Revisions of the Genealogy of the Zuo Family"?
This place is surrounded by small rolling hills, giving people the impression of a peaceful and pastoral scenery with beautiful mountains and green waters. It seems that our ancestors of the Zuo family have the style of Mr. Tao Yuanming. The places they moved to are "planting chrysanthemums under the eastern fence and leisurely seeing the Nanshan Mountain" Fengshui treasure land, which is very suitable for a secluded life.
At a small intersection, go west, up a small slope, and walk 20 to 30 meters, where you will find the Zuo family. When he heard that I came to look for the Zuo family, a middle-aged and elderly villager with a dark face immediately stopped what he was doing and received me very warmly. Later I learned that his name was Zuo Sanding and he was born on September 13, 1955 (which should be the lunar calendar). He introduced that the local Zuo family is called "Zuo Jiachong of the Houbeiling Group in Xinlian Village, Xinshi Town". He also said that he participated in the two joint genealogy revisions of Zuo's Thirteenth Genealogy and Zuo's Fourteenth Genealogy in Youxian and Hengdong counties. It seems that I have found someone who "understands".
I took out a copy of the "Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family" compiled in 38 years of the Republic of China and asked him to read it. I also asked him if this was the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu? This honest farmer, the "understanding person" in my heart, answered some of my questions very enthusiastically, sincerely and seriously: The local family is not the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu; the "Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family" in my hand has nothing to do with them; The local Zuo clan is a descendant of "Daoyi" Gong...
When Zuo Sanding was communicating with me, some Zuo clan villagers gathered around. Among them was a lean, dark-skinned, short middle-aged man riding an electric bicycle carrying an empty bucket of pure water. He was sitting on the electric bicycle and chatting with Zuo Sanding about the origin of their Zuo family. It gives me the feeling that this "lean and dark-skinned" man named Zuo is particularly stubborn and self-righteous. He is more certain than Zuo Sanding that the "Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family" has nothing to do with them. They are Descendants of "Daoyigong".
There is also a thin, clean, medium-sized man in his 60s holding a child. He basically does not make any comments, but his expression is that he strongly agrees with Zuo Sanding and "lean skin". black man” opinion.
It seems that there are many "understanding people" of the Zuo family here, and they seem to know the origins of this branch well.
Please take a look at Volume 2 of "The Twelve Genealogy of the Zuo Family": During the Yuan Dynasty (1264-1294), a descendant of Ye Gong Fengqiao of Yongxin County, Zuo Miaolong, the son of Zuo Gonggui, came from Feng. Qiao first moved to Hengshan, and then moved to Youyi. It was predicted that the place he lived in was Shiqiaopu, and he gave birth to a son named Daoyi. Daoyi Gong had three sons: Shanming, Shanjian, Shanquan... The descendants of Shanminggong lived in Zuojiachong and Luanshan in Youyi for generations, and his descendant Zhi Yinfan...
Volume 3 of "The Twelve Genealogies of the Zuo Family", the entire volume contains the genealogy record of the Zuojiachong branch of Youyi New City (Shiqiaopu): under the title of Daoyi Gongzhi Shan Ming, Yun Xiang, Cheng Da, Cheng Lian, Zuo Jie, Zuo Yan, Zuo Ji, Zuo Wei, Zuo Zhi...
At that time, I thought: The idiom "forgetting one's ancestors after reading the classics" should be used in this situation. , is it appropriate?
There are also people who truly understand. Just when I was feeling helpless and bored and ready to leave, a fat man in his 50s passed by on a motorcycle (or electric car) with his wife. He talked to me very enthusiastically and asked Me: "Have you been to the Zuo Family in Luanshan a few months ago? Are you looking for Shiqiaopu? Someone from the Zuo Family in Luanshan mentioned you to me, saying that you were searching for your roots and promoting Zuo's origin culture..." .
Later I found out that his name was Zuo Meitian, and I promised to make a copy of the "Twelve Revisions of the Zuo Family Genealogy" and mail it to him after I returned to Beijing, so that he could have a clearer understanding of the origins of the Zuo family and educate him. Those so-called "understanding people" should not make the principled mistake of "forgetting their ancestors".
People from the Zuo clan here also introduced to me: There are 50 households with the Zuo surname in this group (place) and about 220 people; there are more than 100 people in Zuojiaping (also known as Zhangshuxia) in Xinshi not far away. Named Zuo clan members...
4. A visit to Zuo’s family in Shiqiaopu, You County (Part 2)
—— Zuo’s family under the camphor tree in Daqiaotou Village, Xinshi Town
201 At 17:00 on August 19, 2015, we returned along the road, entered Xinshi Town, and drove north for more than ten kilometers. Along the way, we asked about Zuo's family under Zhangshuxia, but they couldn't tell where Zuo's family was under Zhangshuxia.
Later I learned that there are two place names "under the camphor tree" in the Xinshi area, and it is only under the camphor tree in Daqiaotou Village that the Zuo family lives. It was already 6pm when we found this place. There are not many Zuo families here, only about a dozen households with about 80 people. These situations were introduced to me by a gentleman named Zuo Dongqing. Zuo Dongqing was born in November 1940. She is not tall, has a thin and fair face, neatly dressed, and is sincere and kind to others. He comes across as knowledgeable and courteous.
Zuo Dongqing said that he had the "Twelve Revisions of the Zuo Family Genealogy" at home and immediately brought it out to me. This set of "The Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family", with the font name Zhong, is very worn out due to poor storage and age. I promised to give him a set of reprinted copies of "The Twelve Revised Genealogy of the Zuo Family" for his collection.
Mr. Zuo Dongqing is relatively familiar with the migration history of the Zuo family in Shiqiaopu. He said that when our ancestors moved to Shiqiaopu, they first established their foundation in Zuojiaping (also known as Zuogongping). Moved to Zuojia (Zuojiachong) of Houbeiling Group, Xinlian Village, not far away. Now there is no one named Zuo living in Zuojiaping (or Zuogongping).
Therefore, Shiqiaopu Zuojia mainly refers to Zuojia in Zuojiachong, Xinlian Village, and also includes Zuojia under Zhangshu.
