Kaili Xianglu Mountain is located about 11 kilometers northwest of Kaili City, the capital of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is named because its mountain shape resembles an incense burner. There are various flowers and trees on the mountain, dense vines and mist. There are fertile fields, fertile soil, deep wells and trickling streams; there are ancient camps, temples and Nantianmen ruins; there are relics reflecting uprising stories and folklore.
The "Qingping County Chronicle" of the Qing Dynasty records: Xianglu Mountain "is as low as an incense burner, with steep rocks, clouds and mist in various shapes in the morning and evening, and no clues." It cannot be climbed up due to climbing vines and vines attached to it, and the top of it overlooks the mountains. The natives say, '80,000 soldiers and horses surround half of it', and you can imagine how big this mountain is." During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Miao People's Rebel Army used this base many times, and many ruins remain on the mountain.
Kaili Xianglu Mountain has a climbing festival on June 19 every year, also called the Mountain Climbing Festival. According to legend, Abie, a fairy in heaven, and Abu, a descendant on earth, had a tryst on Xianglu Mountain and gave birth to their daughter Acai. Later, Abie went to heaven, and Abu also went up to heaven on a cloud of smoke to meet Abie when Acai was sixteen years old. Ah Cai was alone and sang on the mountain.
A Cai’s singing voice was crisp and sweet, which attracted people to go up the mountain. One of them, a young man named A Xing, was the first to climb to the top of the mountain and hugged A Cai. People who climbed to the top of the mountain danced and sang songs around A Xing and A Cai.
This day is the 19th day of the sixth lunar month in the ancient calendar. Later, in order to find a satisfactory partner, people would climb to the halfway point or the top of the mountain to sing and dance every June 19th, forming the Xianglushan Mountain Climbing Festival with young men and women "traveling" as the main content.
