The park history of Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park is one of the earliest parks in Guangzhou and the largest comprehensive park in Guangzhou.

During the Republic of China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen proposed to build Yuexiu Mountain into a large park.

After the liberation of Guangzhou, this idea was realized.

Today, Yuexiu Park has beautiful natural scenery and is rich in the characteristics of subtropical areas. It also preserves various historical relics and relics.

The newly built garden roads also connect various scenic spots.

Yuexiu Mountain, the main body of Yuexiu Park, is a famous mountain with profound cultural heritage. As early as the Qin and Han Dynasties, it was a scenic spot in Guangzhou.

More than 2,000 years ago, Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue who established the first feudal dynasty in Lingnan, held a banquet on this mountain and entertained Lu Jia, the envoy sent by Liu Bang, the emperor of the Han Dynasty.

There is the former site of Yuewang Terrace on Yuexiu Mountain. It is said that every year on the third day of the third month of the third month of the lunar calendar, Zhao Tuo would climb here to have fun. The accompanying officials would dance Yue songs and dances on the platform, so it was also called Song and Dance Hill.

During the Southern Han Dynasty, the emperor of the Southern Han Dynasty used Yuewang Terrace as a banquet place. He planted many exotic flowers and trees on the mountain climbing road, which was called "Huluan Road". Golden chrysanthemums and hibiscus were planted all along the road. The monarchs and ministers of the Southern Han Dynasty often spent good nights here.

By the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties, Yuexiu Mountain had become a relatively famous scenic spot in Guangzhou, such as Yuetai Qiuyue, Yuexiu Songtao, Xiangshan Woodman Song, Yuexiu Peaks, Zhenhai Floors, etc. The "Eight Scenic Spots of Yangcheng" in the past dynasties have all included Yuexiu Mountain as an important scenic spot.

In 1925, the Guangzhou Municipal Government ordered the Industrial and Commercial Bureau to prepare Yuexiu Mountain as a memorial park for Premier Sun Yat-sen.

In 1926, Guangzhou citizens took the initiative to organize a park recreation party to raise funds to build the park. In December of the same year, the opening ceremony of Yuexiu Park was held.

Beginning in 1950, the Guangzhou Municipal Government organized the masses to develop and repair the Yuexiu Mountain scenic spots and historic sites left over from history, and at the same time comprehensively renovate the greening.

Zhu Guang, then mayor of Guangzhou, also inscribed "Yuexiu Park" on the newly built gate tower archway.
