Banana (scientific name: MusabasjooSiebold) is a perennial herb of Musaceae and Musa. Originally from Ryukyu Islands, it can be cultivated in the open field south of Huaihe River in Qinling Mountains in China, mostly near gardens and farmhouses.
This plant is 2.5-4 meters high. The leaves are oblong, blunt at the apex, round or asymmetrical at the base, bright green and shiny; Petiole stout, up to 30 cm. Inflorescence terminal, pendulous; Bracts reddish brown or purple; Male peanuts are in the upper inflorescence and female flowers are in the lower inflorescence; Female flowers are about 10- 16 per bud, arranged in 2 rows; Synbiotic tepals are 4-4.5 cm long, and free tepals are almost as long as synbiotic tepals with sharp tips. Berry is triangular, rectangular, 5-7 cm long, fleshy and contains many seeds. The seeds are black, with verrucous protrusions, irregular edges and corners, and 6-8 mm wide.
