What are the main functions of forests?

The main function of forest is to regulate climate, purify air and maintain ecological balance. Forest is a biological community with woody plants as the main body, and it is the sum of ecosystems formed by the interdependence and mutual restriction between concentrated trees and other plants, animals, microorganisms and soil, as well as the interaction with the environment. It is rich in variety, complex in structure and diverse in functions. Forests are called "the lungs of the earth".

Forest:

Forest refers to a plant community composed of trees, trees with DBH greater than 1.5cm, bamboo with canopy greater than 0.20, and shrubs with canopy greater than 30%. Including arbor forest, bamboo forest and mangrove forest with canopy density greater than 0.20, shrub forest, farmland forest network and trees in villages, roadsides, watersides and houses. Russian forester G·F· Morozov proposed in 1903 that forest is a synthesis of trees, accompanying plants, animals and their environment. Forest botany, botany and vegetation science call it forest plant community, and ecology calls it forest ecosystem. In forestry construction, forest is a kind of protected, developed and renewable natural resource, which has three major benefits: economy, ecology and society.
