natural environment

Qionghai is a rift lake, which was formed by prehistoric geological tectonic movements. The east, south and west of the lake are surrounded by mountains, and the north is connected with Xichang City. The lakeshore is steep from east to west and gentle from north to south. Especially between the north and the urban area, there is a vast plain of about 50 square kilometers, which constitutes the main producing area of cash crops such as grain and vegetables in the lake basin.

Qionghai is located on the Zemuhe compression-torsion fault zone, starting from the south of Puge County in the south, along the Zemuhe River, crossing Qionghai Lake at the eastern foot of Lushan Mountain, and intersecting with the Anninghe concealed fault along the west of Xichang City, with the trend of southeast-northwest, extending for more than 75 kilometers.

This fault has frequent activities and is most likely to cause earthquakes. Qionghai is located in the valley between Yak Mountain in the west and Luoji Mountain in the southeast. Lushan Mountain, a branch between the two mountains, has become the watershed between Qionghai and Anning River.
