Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is located in the east of Jilin Province, covering an area of 42,700 square kilometers, accounting for about a quarter of the total area of Jilin Province. It has jurisdiction over six cities of Yanji, Tumen, Dunhua, Hunchun, Longjing and Helong, and two counties of Wangqing and Antu, with Yanji as the capital.

Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is located in the east of Jilin Province, at the junction of China, Russia and North Korea, facing the Sea of Japan. It is located between 4 1.59 ~ 44.30 north latitude and 27.27 ~131.18 east longitude. It borders the Russian coastal area in the east and the salty area of North Korea across the Tumen River in the south. The total length of the border line is 755.2 kilometers, including 522.5 kilometers between China and North Korea and 232.7 kilometers between China and Russia. Relying on the vast hinterland of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces, it is an important window for the three northeastern provinces to communicate at home and abroad, and it is also the intersection of the three major centers of gravity of regional economy, population and geography in Northeast Asia, occupying an important hub position in the land and sea transportation pattern connecting Asia, Europe and the United States.
