The legend of Matsu Rock

The predecessor of Mazu Rock was also called Fori Peak. On the shore of Gongshui in the eastern suburbs of Ganzhou, it is only 263 meters high. But it is the best place to overlook Ganzhou City. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can see the lush and majestic Kongtong Mountain in the south; in the west, you can see the towering ancient city prostrate in the south of Gongshui; in the north, you can see Chushan Mountain, which has a longer name than Matsu Rock. ; To the east are green and pleasant winding mountains. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, this place is home to outstanding people and places, where you can have a glimpse of the lonely Yugu Terrace and Wangque Terrace, as well as the ancient Tianzhu Temple and Jiangdong Temple. There are lush forests and bamboos, rare birds and animals on the mountain, and at the foot of the mountain there are villages and homes, fields, clear streams, and the fragrance of wild flowers. Such a treasure land was spotted by Mazu, so Mazu led his people to build a temple, which established Mazu's heart seal teaching and made him a great master. It also made Fori Peak what it is today, Mazu Rock, and a holy place for Buddhism. Mazu was born in Shifang County, Sichuan. His common surname was Ma and his nickname was Mazu. The Buddha's name is: Zen Master Daoyi. Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty conferred the posthumous title of Zen Master Daji. According to the records of the Tongzhi period (Ganzhou Prefecture Annals): Zen Master Daoyi, "has a strange appearance, walks like an ox and steps like a tiger, leads his tongue to lick his nose, and has two rounds of writing." This strange man studied under the monk Huairang. It is said that Mazu Daoyi built a thatched cottage in Hengshan, Nanyue, Hunan, and meditated all day with his legs crossed. Huairang recognized it as a great tool for Buddhism, so he went to ask him: "What does the great master want to do when he is sitting in meditation?" Mazu said: " I want to become a Buddha." So Zen Master Huairang took a brick and went to the nunnery where he meditated every day to grind it. Mazu asked his master, "What is the purpose of polishing bricks?" Huairang said, "Grinding them to make a mirror." Mazu said, "How can you polish bricks to make a mirror?" Master said, "Printing bricks can't make a mirror. How can you become a Buddha by sitting in meditation?" Mazu said. So he became enlightened and became his teacher. He followed him for ten years, and he was able to enter the hall and receive the secret seal of his heart. In order to teach his inner truth, Mazu came to Fori Peak in Shuidong, Ganzhou. (1) Obtaining land In order to better spread the great Tao, Master Ma wanted to build a temple, and the first thing he had to do was to select a land. According to legend, Mazu observed carefully and saw the towering peaks, the stars in the sky looming over the moon, and the beautiful mountains and rivers. He knew it was a geomantic treasure. He thought that it would be great if he could preach and promote Buddhism here. So they asked Gong Gong, the owner of the mountain, to raise money for a dojo base, and Gong Gong generously agreed. And asked Mazu how much land he wanted to convert? Mazu said: Just turn it into a cassock land. After hearing this, Gong Gong smiled and said, what's wrong with the land of cassocks? Mazu replied: "As soon as he buried his mother, in order to express his regret for his mother, he hired a skilled carver to carve a portrait of his mother. Every day when he went to work and finished work, he carried "mother" on his back; when eating, He first scooped a bowl and offered it to "Mother" to show his filial piety. "Gong Gong said: "One word is settled." Mazu burned incense and cast the cassock in the air in front of everyone. The cassock spread out and the red light shone. With the cassock floating in the air and covering the main peak, Zhang Cheng said, "Why don't you just wind up the line? I'll accompany you. Why bother with all the troops?" After saying that, he took out an ingot of silver from his sleeve and handed it to Luo. , streamers cover the left and right pits. On the left is the water pit, and on the right is the Antarctic pit (these two pits are also called streamer pits by later generations). There are more than twenty miles of fields and mountains covered by cassocks, covering hundreds of acres. Seeing this scene, Gong Gong immediately discussed with his wife. The couple had always been willing to do good and charity. Seeing that Master Ma's magic was so superb, they expressed their willingness to donate all the fields and mountains to Mazu to preach and propagate Buddhism, and to choose an auspicious place to live. Zen Master Mazu was very happy to be able to transform this mountain. Seeing that Gong Gong and his wife expressed their willingness to choose another auspicious place to live, Mazu handed Gong Gong an umbrella and asked Gong Gong to go west to find auspicious places the next day. He also told Gong Gong: If it rains during the trip, do not open your umbrella when it rains lightly. When it rains heavily, the place where you open your umbrella to take shelter from the rain is the auspicious place for you to open it. The next day, Gong Gong followed the instructions and went west to choose a place. Gong Gongxing Another common suicide phenomenon in the Ming Dynasty was suicide to preserve reputation. At that time, the concepts of "men and women are different" and "men and women are not intimate with each other" developed to extreme levels. Many people often take their own lives because of trivial things. For example, some people hanged themselves because they were falsely accused of having sexual intercourse with others. Some people set themselves on fire after their husbands died because they were scared because someone in the same village was envious of their beauty. Some people threw themselves into the river and died just because their bodies were touched. Many people committed suicide to avoid being humiliated. When they arrived at Lintou, Ma Zubian began to cast light rain, and it was estimated that when Gong Gong went to Luxi (now Bailu), it would rain heavily.

He wanted to learn, so he said: "You should try to go to heaven first and see before you talk." He thought to himself: I'm afraid if the sky doesn't come, you will run out of the dining room by yourself. Tian Xiucai saw all this clearly. Breathing heavily, he ran to the market, thought about it, bought a few rice cakes, and stuffed them into his arms. . They were thrown on the beach and slept like dead pigs one by one. He yelled to wake up the man and yelled: "Dead pig! What have you done? All the wood has been stolen! I will put you in jail!" The boss of Mupai sent all the men to go ashore to search everywhere. When they found the top of Fori Peak, they saw piles all over the mountain. of wood. Zen Master Mazu stood at the edge of a large well, directing his disciples to fish wood from the well. One piece was taken out and another was raised, and so on, until the temple was completed, but the wood was not taken out yet. Legend has it that there was still one piece left in the well, so the well was called Mujing. When the guys saw this scene, they quickly went back and told the boss. When the boss heard this, he beat his chest and feet in anger. He suddenly realized that this little old man was a god! He regretted that he should not judge people by their appearance. The temple was quickly built, and Zen Master Mazu immediately opened an altar to preach Zen. Many people gathered to listen to the teachings, which made Zen flourish and the temple became a famous temple. (Pot for Thousands of People, Bed for Ten Thousands of People) According to legend, there is a big pot in the ancient temple. One meal can be cooked for thousands of people. There is one bed where ten thousand monks can sleep without feeling crowded. One day, when a monk in the kitchen got up to make porridge in the morning, he accidentally fell into the pot and was boiled without anyone knowing. When passing the hall, a monk entered the room with a rice bowl and found a person's fingernail, and he hurriedly recited "Amitabha". At this time, thousands of people's pots and ten thousand people's beds actually flew into the sky. No, "yes, the cattle shed is indeed not small. However, my father built a very high cattle shed.
