How did the Half-Ghost Festival in July come about? Are there any taboos? The Hungry Ghost Festival is commonly known as the Ghost Festival and July Half, and in Buddhism it is called the Bon Festival. As a traditional folk festival, the name "Zhongyuan" originated from the Northern Wei Dynasty. It falls on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month and some on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month. Originally it was Xiaoqiu, when some crops were ripe. It was customary for the people to worship their ancestors and use new rice as offerings to report the harvest to their ancestors. The situation told Sakyamuni that the Buddha taught him that his mother had sown a lot of sins when she was alive, so she fell into the realm of hungry ghosts after death, and would never recover. This evil obstacle cannot be resolved by him alone, and must be eliminated. * With the power of everyone, Mulian and other eminent monks held a large-scale worship ceremony to transcend the souls of the dead.
