Luzhou Fangshan has beautiful scenery and towering old trees. It is said that Han Xiangzi, the Eight Immortals, practiced here. Emperor Wen Jian of the Ming Dynasty once came here for a cruise. The most famous one on Fangshan Mountain is the only "black-faced Guanyin" in Yunfeng Temple.

A brief introduction to the origin of black-faced Guanyin

There are many legends about its origin. According to a local old man, there used to be an evil gentry named Han here. After his death, his ashes were buried in a treasure trove of geomantic omen on the mountain, which made the whole temple resound with gongs and drums and blackened the face of Guanyin Bodhisattva. It is said that Guanyin Bodhisattva once appeared in Yunfeng Temple, helping the temple to file a lawsuit and trying to get back the land occupied by the rich man. In a rage, the rich man grabbed a pot of ash and sprinkled it on Guanyin's face. Guanyin's face in the hall turned black from now on.

Obviously, this is just a legend: Guanyin Bodhisattva is neither a human nor a god. She has left her desire and anger. How could she be angry? If you are angry now, you will not have such a dark face; And this black face is obviously not dyed in a pot of ash. Therefore, the most well-founded statement should be the last one: Guanyin bodhisattva should have many incarnations, and the black-faced Guanyin is one of them.
